Position Summary
The Heavy Equipment Technician is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of the company's rental fleet. Working both independently and with the shop team, this position helps ensure equipment is ready for customers while maintaining high standards of safety and quality.
Applications are welcomed from 3rd-Year Heavy Equipment Technician Apprentices and Red Seal Journeyman Heavy Equipment Technicians.
Key ResponsibilitiesEquipment Maintenance & Repair
- Perform preventative maintenance on heavy equipment and attachments.
- Diagnose and repair hydraulic, electrical, engine, powertrain, steering, braking, and undercarriage systems.
- Complete inspections prior to equipment being rented or returned.
- Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues using diagnostic equipment and manufacturer service information.
- Perform field service repairs when required.
Fleet Readiness
- Ensure rental equipment is clean, safe, and mechanically sound.
- Identify potential equipment concerns before they become major failures.
- Complete work orders accurately and promptly.
- Record labour hours, parts used, and repair notes.
- Report warranty concerns and recurring equipment issues.
- Follow all company safety policies and safe work procedures.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Conduct equipment inspections in accordance with company standards.
- Properly use PPE and shop equipment.
- Support apprentices through knowledge sharing and mentorship (Journeyman).
- Work collaboratively with operations and rental staff.
- Maintain a professional attitude with customers and coworkers.
Qualifications Required
- Registered 3rd-Year Heavy Equipment Technician Apprentice or Red Seal Journeyman Heavy Equipment Technician.
- Valid driver's licence
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to read service manuals and hydraulic/electrical schematics.
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
Preferred Experience working on one or more of the following:
- Caterpillar
- Komatsu
- John Deere
- Volvo Construction Equipment
Experience with:
- Excavators
- Dozers
- Wheel Loaders
- Skid Steers
- Compactors
- Aerial Equipment
- Telehandlers
