Civil Engineering Drafting Technologist – Erosion and Sediment Control

As a Civil Engineering Drafting Technologist your role will include working with engineers and other technicians to prepare engineering design and construction drawings, including subdivision cover sheets and plan-profile drawings, as well as assist with design of subdivisions and calculations for a variety of municipal projects.
Your skills and qualifications
Our preferred candidate must have a minimum of 3-5 years of practical experience in municipal/civil engineering, drafting and design, and must have experience in erosion and sediment control drafting. The candidate must also be a graduate from an Engineering Design and Drafting or Civil Engineering Technologist program, and be proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D. CPESC Certification would be an ideal asset.
In addition, we are looking for the following skills and qualifications:
- Thoroughly versed in the use of AutoCAD Civil 3D software
- Working knowledge of the most recent City of Calgary design manuals and guidelines as well as construction technical specifications
- Excellent design skills in the production of municipal servicing of roads and land development
- An open mind to design options, highly detail-oriented, and focused on accuracy and quality
- Ability to work well under pressure and within tight deadlines
- Highly effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with others
- Committed to ongoing personal and professional development
Your Responsibilities
- Drafting of erosion and sediment control drawings, DSSPs, subdivision cover sheets, plan-profiles, and any additional drawings required for submitting construction drawing sets
- Preparation of erosion and sediment control reports for submission to the City of Calgary or other municipalities
- Making site visits to assess ESC needs
- Performing earthworks calculations using existing topographic data and design surfaces
- Designing grades, sanitary/storm sewers and water networks based on rough grades according to the appropriate municipal requirements
- Importing and manipulate survey data
- Preparing and export construction survey layout data
- Preparing as-built drawings as per City of Calgary and other municipalities’ specifications
