We are currently seeking a Heavy Duty Mechanic to work in the Equipment Division. The incumbent can be an Apprentice (3rd/4th year) or a Journeyman. Reporting to the Supervisor, the Heavy Duty Mechanic is responsible for the diagnosis and repair of all heavy equipment (off road) used in road building and maintenance such as Excavators, Graders, Loaders, Rollers, Milling and Paving equipment, Heavy Trucks, and trailers, etc. Work will be within a shop and field environment.
What is the role?
- Checks equipment for proper performance and inspects equipment to detect faults and malfunctions;
- Diagnoses faults or malfunctions using computerized and other testing equipment to determine extent of repair required;
- Preventative maintenance inspections and repairs;
- Interprets work orders and technical manuals;
- Confers with Shop Supervisor/Lead Hand regarding all repairs and extent of repairs necessary;
- Adjusts equipment and repair or replace defective parts, components, or systems, using hand and power tools;
- Tests repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that work meets manufacturers' specifications;
- Orders material/parts to complete repairs;
- Ensures repairs remain within budget requirements;
- Maintains service records;
- Attaches components and adjusts new road building/maintenance equipment;
- Ensures safety standards/training are following the Corporate Safety Program;
- Liaises with the Safety Management team to keep up to date in applicable health, safety, and environmental regulations;
- Ensures that all health and safety standards meet legislated requirements;
- Conducts regular site inspections to ensure safety standards are adhered to;
- Ensures safety meetings, quarterly job inspections, hazards assessments and incident reports are completed in a timely fashion as required;
- Other duties as assigned.
