Human Resources Generalist

The Human Resources Generalist will manage key functions designed to create the best work environment.
Guided by the strategic plan, the HR Generalist will manage the delivery of services in employee relations (“ER”), labour relations (“LR”) and workforce planning that will enable the achievement of excellent patient care. Through this work, the Generalist will be accountable for fostering a healthy, safe and respectful workplace culture that promotes Shouldice Hospital’s core values of Quality, Integrity and Compassion and drives Service Excellence.
Responsibilities
- Builds the service delivery model for ER/LR that is both patient centered and performance-focused, and delivers the right tools and supports to foster a healthy, safe and respectful work environment;
- Acts as a strategic partner in providing employee and labour relations advice, support and guidance with respect to the collective agreement, HR policies, and interpretation and compliance with legislation to assist all departments in achieving their operational goals;
- Participates in collective bargaining for the Hospital and works with the Senior Management Team and outside legal counsel to develop the Hospital’s strategic bargaining direction;
- Leads engagement with employee groups and union representatives that focuses on communication, planning and problem solving to ensure excellent employee and labour relations including participating in Performance Management, Mediation and Arbitration proceeding;
- Establishes key performance metrics and service level targets with departmental Managers and Supervisors that will drive strategy, efficiency, effective service delivery and positive constructive relationships, both internal and external;
- Work collaboratively with Senior Management to establish process standards that drive efficiency, clear accountability and service quality;
- Leads, coaches and develops a Hospital program to improve capability, encourage best practice and demonstrate a passion for creating a culture defined by service excellence;
· Maintains the HR work structure by updating job requirements and job descriptions for all positions;
· Coordinates scheduling and compliance with Performance Appraisal program for inclusion in Incentive Based employee salary increases and departmental bonuses;
· Ensures planning, monitoring, and appraisal of employee work results by training Managers and Supervisors to coach and discipline employees; scheduling performance management meetings with employees; hearing and resolving employee grievances (both union and non-union); and counseling employees, Supervisors and Managers;
· Identifying, designing and monitoring departmental educational programs as required to ensure all employees have up-to-date mandated training required to fulfill their job responsibilities;
· Ensures legal compliance by monitoring and implementing applicable human resource federal and provincial requirements; conducting investigations; maintaining records; representing the organization at hearings (i.e. Pay Equity, Harassment, Privacy, Human Rights, Termination etc.);
Skills and Qualifications:
· Proven working experience in an HR Department, Degree in Human Resources or related field required.
· CHRP preferred.
· At least 5 years of ER / LR experience required, HHR experience an asset.
· People oriented and results driven.
· Demonstrable experience with Human Resource metrics.
· Knowledge of, and experience with, HR systems and databases required.
· Experience in a Union environment, for CA interpretation, compliance, negotiation, and Grievance / Arbitration management. ONA CA experience an asset.
· Excellent active listening, communication, and presentation skills and inherent trait.
· Competence to build and effectively manage interpersonal relationships at all levels of the Hospital to build, and maintain, a strong Team environment.
- In-depth knowledge of labour law (ESA and Common) and HR Best Practices
