Responsibilities:
- Participate in engineering activities related to process or product, including process design and development, product revisions, product revisions, product testing, and interdepartmental liaison with the St. Catharines engineering to meet both costing and timing objectives of new and existing product lines.
- Maintain up to date product files with supporting information (process FMEA's, tooling drawings, fixture drawings, process log, equipment manuals, programs - CNC/PLC, machine prints etc..
- Support/assist teams in development of TPM program, scrap reduction, specialized training etc..
- Participate in product or process changes, process FMEA's, estimate requests, failsafes, fixtures, fixture and tooling change
- Initiate an implement process/product cost reduction programs (evaluate, complete and submit A.C.T.I.O.N ideas)
- Initiate and implement measures to improve/increase utilization of assets.
- Participate in the design, implementation and groom of new processes and equipment.
- Assist in customer prototype build requirements.
- Assist in completing cost estimates as required.
- Control minor projects/programs within the approved budget.
- Provide input for specification of robust, reliable processes and product to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Make technical presentations and reports as required.
- Provide liaison between engineering, manufacturing and sales on specific products.
- Participate in reviews of FMEA's as required.
- Standardize process designs when appropriate. (fixtures, tooling, CNC programs, PLC programs, etc..
- Perform minor program edits (CNC, PLC).
- Review capability studies, SPC charts and assist in the development of action plans to resolve issues.
- Participate in customer concern evaluation and resolution. (eg. 8D response where applicable).
- React to issues/trends in scrap charts focusing on reduction/elimination of scrap and reducing PPM numbers.
- Assist in contact point and location point analysis on product/process and gauge design.
- Utilize statistical techniques as aids to analyze/improve process/product robustness.
- Utilized computerized project management techniques on new product/process launches.
- Evaluate and implement feasible product/process change requests from manufacturing, suppliers and vendors.
- Utilize CAD techniques for fixture redesign, electrical schematics, tool design, etc.
- Develop/Implement failsafes with a focus on high-Risk priority numbers operations.
- Continue to upgrade skills and knowledge staying abreast of the latest technologies.
- Provide training and method of information sharing enabling skills and knowledge staying abreast of the latest technologies.
- Provide training and method of information sharing enabling skills upgrading of others. This can be done through informal communications.
- Constantly strive to improve operator safety with focus on sound ergonomic practices.
Requirements:
- Community college degree or equivalent in Mechanical or Electrical discipline or 3 to 5 years' experience in a related field.
- Must demonstrate the ability to organize, plan and prioritize assignments to ensure they are completed on time within budget.
- Ability to use specialized computer software and techniques required to perform typical tasks. (Excel, Word, Autocad).
- Knowledge of automotive machining and assembly processes in either the mechanical, electrical or industrial engineering field
