Position Summary:
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Senior Purchaser to join our Procurement team at our Winnipeg head office.
This is an excellent opportunity for a mid-career supply chain professional who is ready to take the next step, assume greater ownership, and grow with the company. The successful candidate will be directly involved in purchasing finished goods, raw materials, components, MRO items, and other materials and supplies required to support our manufacturing and distribution operations.
With operations in Canada, the United States, and Germany, and suppliers located across the world, this position offers meaningful exposure to global sourcing, international supply chains, freight, customs, tariffs, and vendor negotiations.
The Senior Purchaser will manage day-to-day procurement responsibilities while also contributing to supplier development, inventory planning, cost management, strategy, and process improvement. This role reports to the Director of Procurement and works closely with all departments across the company.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and execute the purchase of finished goods, raw materials, components, MRO items, and other supplies required to support production and customer demand.
- Monitor inventory requirements and maintain established minimum and maximum inventory levels through timely purchase orders and material releases.
- Coordinate with Production, Scheduling, Customer Service, Receiving, and other departments to ensure materials are available when required.
- Expedite materials and resolve supply issues to minimize production interruptions, inventory shortages, and missed customer shipments.
- Source, assess, and validate new suppliers while developing strong working relationships with existing vendors.
- Monitor supplier pricing, lead times, quality, delivery performance, and compliance, addressing or escalating issues as required.
- Participate in vendor negotiations related to product costs, payment terms, rebates, lead times, and other commercial terms.
- Support inbound freight activities by obtaining competitive rates, coordinating shipments, following up on delays, and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
- Prepare procurement reports and communicate inventory risks, supplier concerns, cost changes, shortages, delivery issues, and performance results.
- Maintain accurate purchasing and vendor information in the ERP system and contribute to continuous improvement across purchasing, inventory planning, vendor management, and logistics.
Qualifications, Training and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree focusing on Supply Chain Management or a related field is preferred.
- 6+ years of experience in procurement or Supply Chain Management.
- Experience with global sourcing, international supply chains, and logistics channels.
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment.
- Working knowledge of tariffs, duties, customs, brokerage, and international trade requirements.
- Strong computer skills with specific emphasis on Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and adapt to shifting priorities and changing circumstances.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively, taking initiative, exercising sound judgment, and managing responsibilities with minimal supervision.
- Excellent communication, organization, time management, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong negotiation, analytical, and commercial decision-making skills.
- Experience with ERP systems is preferred.
