Position Description:
There are 4 full-time and/or part-time Community Disability Services Worker opportunities available for the Adult Department in Medicine Hat.
In this role, you will provide direct support to individuals with developmental disabilities, either one-on-one or within a staffed residential setting. Your primary responsibility will be to promote independence, enhance quality of life, and facilitate meaningful engagement in the community.
As a Community Disability Services Worker, you will be working independently and/or in collaboration with other staff to assist an Individual and to empower them by encouraging independence, a meaningful community presence, and an enriched quality of life. This includes implementation of the Individual Support Plan; working all shifts as required; may include assisting with personal care.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
- Demonstrated experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities and complex behaviours.
- Proven ability to follow individualized program or support plans.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Understanding and application of trauma-informed care and person-centered practices are considered assets
- Commitment to promoting dignity, respect, and inclusion.
- Supporting life and community skills
- Medication administration
- Responsible to maintain a clear Criminal Record, current Standard First Aid CPR Level C, and keep all mandatory training up to date.
Requirements:
- Valid class 5 driver's license and own vehicle;
- $2 million dollar third party liability insurance with disclosure to insurance company for appropriate coverage for nature of work ;
- Clear Drivers Abstract;
- Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check;
- Smartphone data plan;
- Standard First Aid- Level C CPR/AED;
- Previous experience and/or education with individuals with disabilities, is an asset.
Education:
- Minimum High School Diploma and/or equivalent experience;
- Foundations in Community Disability Studies Certificate will be considered an asset.
Optional Requirements:
- Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NVCI),
- Mental Health First Aid
