The John Howard Society of Sudbury is an organization of citizens who accept responsibility for understanding and dealing with the problems of crime and the criminal justice system. We STOP Crime Now ! TM through many varied programs and services.
We have been serving people for fifty-nine years in Sudbury and are part of a world wide organization which began in England over two hundred and twenty years ago. We presently have an opening for the following position.
(32.5 hours per week until March 31, 2020)
The successful candidate will be working with individuals who are referred by the judicial system as an alternative to the normal court processes for persons charged with a criminal offense. Responsibilities include setting consequences for individuals referred, ongoing contact with the Crown Attorney’s office and monthly statistical reporting. The necessary qualifications include:
· Post secondary degree (preferably a minimum of a Bachelor of Social Work)
· Ability to work evenings once per week
· Ability to speak a second language such as French or Ojibway (may consider English only if no second language candidates are able to be chosen for the position)
· Experience working with high risk populations
· Excellent mediation and collaboration skills
· Superior ability to produce statistical reports on time as evidenced by past work and references

This is a contract position with a firm possibility of permanency based on funding announcements by the Ministry of the Attorney General. This is usually given by March 25 of each fiscal year. We may not be able to offer a high salary, but it is fair and competitive in the small social service sector. The successful candidate may be required to share office space.
