ROLE
The Fabrication Fitter is responsible for reading and interpreting piping isometrics, fabrication drawings, prepping, fitting and tacking spools for production welding. Organizing and maintaining drawing flow on shop floor to meet daily output requirements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Read and interpret company and customer-supplied drawings and specifications.
- Produce spools and spool sections according to Isometric Drawings.
- Alignment and tack welding of spools and spool sections.
- The use of bevellers and hand torches, cutting and pipe threaders and benders.
- Rigging of spools, overhead crane and jib crane operation.
- Maintain shop equipment.
- Display a high level of craftsmanship while providing an efficient workflow.
- Verify pipe dimensions, alignments, and quality to meet project standards and specifications.
- Conduct inspections to ensure piping system integrity and performance.
- Maintain records for quality assurance.
- Adhere to safety protocols, including PPE use, lockout/tagout, and compliance with regulations.
- Follow relevant codes, standards, and regulations.
- Perform risk assessments and implement hazard mitigation measures.
- Stay updated with industry best practices and safety guidelines.
Note: In addition to these duties, personnel are required to carry out such other duties as may be reasonably required to support the objectives of the company.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications
- Journeyperson Pipefitter certification.
- Various safety tickets/certificates as required depending on project.
- Alberta B-pressure ticket would be considered an asset.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a bench fitter, demonstrating proficiency in fabrication techniques.
- Spool fabrication shop experience is required.
Skills and Knowledge
- Knowledge of industrial construction.
- Familiarity with various pipe materials/grades.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
- Knowledge of safety procedures and practices related to pipefitting/bench fitting/fabrication work.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex piping issues.
- Good physical condition and stamina to perform manual labour and work in various conditions.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to concentrate on detailed work for long periods of time.
- Ability to plan and organize small tasks.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position is based at our Spruce Grove fabrication shop. Must be able to work 5 – 6 days/week, 10 hours/day.
