Job Overview
Bruder Springstead LLP is a thriving litigation boutique specializing in insurance defence/tort and Accident Benefits. As a member of the team, you will be supporting two lawyers in the handling of insurance defence/tort and accident benefit matters. This is a hybrid position where you will be responsible for the day-to-day file management and various clerking tasks.
Responsibilities
- opening and closing files/management of files/accounts
- preparation and drafting of correspondence and legal documents including but not limited to drafting notices of examinations, releases, notices of discontinuance, orders, consent, declaration of representative, certificate of service
- ensuring all appropriate documents are served and filed with the court/tribunal in accordance with the Rules of the License Appeal Tribunal, Financial Services Commission of Ontario, and the Rules of Civil Procedure
- Scheduling
- implementing an effective diary system
- prioritization of tasks
- liaising with clients, court and opposing counsel
- briefing
- undertaking compliance
- drafting Affidavit of Documents
- summarizing productions
Qualifications
- 1-year related insurance defence/accident benefits experience
- legal assistant/law clerk/paralegal certification or university degree
- working knowledge and understanding of the Rules of Civil Procedure and the License Appeal Tribunal Rules, Financial Services Commission of Ontario and knowledge of Knowledge of accident benefits and the Statutory Accident Benefits Schedule
- excellent verbal and written communication skills
- excellent organizational skills
- ability to work in a paperless environment
- attention to detail with a desire to take initiative
- able to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
- knowledge of PC Law and Primafact would be preferred but not required.
