Overview:
Construction labourers are responsible for complete a variety of tasks; this includes lifting, shoveling, digging locates, raking gravel, operating jack hammers, moving barricades, and running plate tampers.
Duties/Tasks:
- Responsible for checking equipment and informing mechanics and supervisors of mechanical problems with the equipment;
- Identifying hazards on site;
- Learning general construction practices involving road construction;
- Understand the issues involving ground disturbance and work in / implement safe work practices; and
- Contribute to a safe work environment.
Knowledge/Skills Required:
- Must have a valid driver’s license (class 5).
- Must be physically able to perform all physical actions pertinent to the tools and equipment operated.
- Must be willing to learn and take direction.
- Must be able to communicate well with co-workers.
- Must be able to work under pressure in some situations.
- Must be able to meet all safety requirements and applicable safety policies.
- Must be willing to work overtime as required.
Working Conditions:
- Travel between local job sites as required
- Overtime, evenings and weekends as required
- Work outdoors in a dusty and noisy construction environment, potentially in adverse weather conditions
- Potential to drive company vehicles or equipment
- Must meet and adhere to all safety requirements and applicable safety policies, including pre-employment drug, alcohol, and medical testing
