Dog Trainer, Canine Enrichment Centre

The Canine Enrichment Centre at the Edmonton Humane Society is seeking a temporary, full-time
Trainer. The Canine Enrichment Centre (CEC) is a program area of EHS designed to provide resources,
support the lives of canines and foster the human-animal bond through proper training and care. The
Trainer will develop and lead classes and private sessions for dog owners to learn proven training
techniques and fulfill administrative duties to ensure the success and sustainability of the Training
Academy.
Duties:
This work is subject to varying schedules or work assignments, including irregular hours such as
weekends or holidays. Exposure to weather, animals or odors as well as potential exposure to
aggressive animals. Applicants must be physically fit and able to life 25-50 pounds and periodically
assisting with handling/moving of objects in excess of 50 pounds.
Wages and Hours:
Wage: Commensurate based on education and experience
Hours: 40 hours per week, variable hours of work, including weekends and evenings.

Duties:
- Coordinate and teach group training classes & private training sessions, included the DBTM
- Review and update all CEC training curriculum, and develop new courses and seminars
- Stay current with training techniques and standards
- Engage external stakeholders to develop new partnerships for new deliveries in support of the
- Respond to and assist with hotline/email/counter inquiries, providing excellent customer
- Maintain the Training Academy’s calendar of activities
- Administer data, maintaining accurate records of clients and course registration, producing
- Provide input on behaviour-related incidents from Central Bark where dog behaviour needs to
- May be required to support on-site and off-site events and/or media events
- Support other areas when required, including Daycare and Behaviour departments
- Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Preference given to those that have completed EHS’s Dog Behaviour Training and
- Recognized education in animal behaviour and/or training methodologies
- Minimum of 1 year’s experience leading clients in group training class settings
- Ability to collect information, prepare documents and course materials, with proficiency in MS
- Ability maintain high standards of cleanliness and sanitization in the training facility
- Knowledge of companion animals and animal welfare issues
- Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills
- Must have proof of current tetanus vaccination
