Job Title: Parenting Group Facilitator
Position Type: Regular, Part-time
Wage Rate: Grid 10 (regular wage: $31.57/hour)
This position is compensated in accordance with the Fernwood NH/BCGEU Collective Agreement wage grid. Wage rates are aligned with the CSS-GS JJEP. Probationary wage is 85% of the regular wage.
Hours & Schedule: 30 hours/week
The schedule for this position is mutually determined with the supervisor, however, is generally as follows:
- Monday-Thursday, 9:00am – 5:00pm (8 hours with 30-minute unpaid break)
Work Location(s): Fernwood Neighbourhood House, 1240 Gladstone Avenue, Victoria, BC
The above work location is this role’s primary location and home base. However, regular programming does also occur off-site at Quadra Village Community Centre (901 Kings Road, Victoria, BC).

Job Summary
We are looking for a Parenting Group Facilitator to plan and facilitate established parenting and family programs. This position supports parents and families by creating welcoming group environments that promote connection, skill development, and access to community resources.
General Responsibilities
- Facilitate perinatal groups (such as Best Babies), parenting groups (such as Nobody’s Perfect, Mother Goose), and related activities.
- Recruit, orient, and support program participants.
- Plan and prepare group sessions in accordance with program guidelines and participant needs.
- Promote programs through community outreach, presentations, and distribution of promotional materials.
- Prepare promotional materials (such as posters and social media posts) using program templates and guidelines.
- Prepare facilities, equipment, and materials for group sessions.
- Obtain participant feedback and support program evaluation.
- Provide follow-up support and information to participants as required.
- Maintain accurate program records and reports.
- Maintain current knowledge of relevant community resources and provide information and referrals to participants.
- Orient, monitor, and provide work direction to volunteers and/or practicum students.
- Operate a motor vehicle to pick up and transport goods and supplies, as required.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Grade 12 or equivalent.
- Two (2) years of recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Experience facilitating groups and working with parents, families, or community programs is an asset.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and respectful relationships with participants.
- Valid Class 5 driver's licence (access to a vehicle is an asset).
- Completion of Nobody’s Perfect Parenting Facilitator Training is an asset.
- The successful candidate will need to undergo a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check upon hiring.
Working Conditions
- Ability to lift/move up to 30 lbs. (chairs, cots,mats,etc.)
- Ability to stand for long periods, crouch, bend frequently.
- Ability to work in busy, loud environment.

Unionized Position
Fernwood Neighbourhood House is a unionized workplace, and this position is part of the BC General Employees' Union (BCGEU) bargaining unit.
This position is open to all applicants. This position requires union membership and is covered by the BCGEU Collective Agreement. The successful applicant will become a member of the BCGEU and union dues will be deducted in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
