Summary
The Booking Clerk is responsible for sourcing, securing, and managing freight opportunities while coordinating with brokers, carriers, and internal teams to ensure freight is booked efficiently and profitably. This role requires strong negotiation skills, market awareness, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced transportation environment.
Job Duties
- Source and secure truckload freight opportunities through load boards, brokers, and existing customer relationships.
- Negotiate rates with brokers and carriers to maximize profitability while maintaining high service standards.
- Coordinate freight bookings and ensure shipment details are accurate and complete.
- Monitor market trends, carrier capacity, and spot market rates to make informed booking decisions.
- Build and maintain strong professional relationships with brokers, carriers, and customers.
- Track shipments and proactively communicate updates, delays, or issues to relevant stakeholders.
- Ensure all load information, documentation, and system records are accurate and up to date.
- Collaborate with dispatch, operations, and pricing teams to optimize freight coverage and service delivery.
- Assist with resolving service issues and customer concerns in a timely and professional manner.
- Meet or exceed daily and weekly booking, revenue, and performance goals
Requirements ·
- Previous experience in freight booking, logistics coordination, or transportation operations is preferred (minimum one year of industry experience considered an asset).
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
- Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new software and systems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong grammar and spelling.
- Professional telephone etiquette and strong interpersonal skills.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational, time management, and multitasking abilities.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proven problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality when dealing with internal and external stakeholders.
