What you will do:
Reporting to the Manager, Library Services, you'll help create welcoming, positive experiences for everyone who visits the library. This role is all about connecting people with information, technology, resources, and services that make a difference in their daily lives.
Key responsibilities include:
Providing friendly, patient, and responsive customer service to people of all ages and backgrounds
Helping visitors access library services, accounts, and self-service technology
Assisting community members with technology, including computers, printing, internet access, and digital resources
Supporting people as they search for information, complete forms, learn new skills, or find answers to their questions
Recommending books, movies, and other materials based on individual interests
Helping keep library collections organized, accurate, and easy to access
Assisting with the delivery of programs, events, and activities for children, teens, adults, and families
Contributing to a welcoming, inclusive, and safe environment for all visitors
Maintaining a satisfactory attendance record, subject to the requirements of the Ontario Human Rights Code
What you will bring:
We're looking for someone who is friendly, adaptable, and enjoys helping people. The ideal candidate brings strong customer service skills, a willingness to learn, and a commitment to creating a welcoming and inclusive experience for everyone who visits the library. The successful candidate will bring the following qualifications and skills:
A high-school diploma is required. Post-secondary and library-related education is considered an asset. Applicants with education or experience in education, recreation, community development, arts, culture, communications, social services, technology, performing arts, creative industries or related fields are encouraged to apply.
Experience in customer service, public service, retail, recreation, hospitality, education, community services, or a similar people-focused environment
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with a wide variety of people
A patient, empathetic, and approachable attitude when assisting others
Confidence learning and using technology, and the ability to help others do the same
A proven ability to champion and embrace change in a fast-paced environment
The ability to work independently and as part of a team
An interest in reading, lifelong learning, community engagement, and helping people succeed
A valid Class G driver's licence, satisfactory driver's abstract, and reliable transportation
