The Opportunity
Rupertsland Institute (RLI) is recruiting for a Human Resources Assistant (HRA). Reporting to the Human Resources Manager (HRM), the HRA will be responsible for leading employee engagement, and assisting with full cycle recruitment and onboarding, benefits and pension administration, Health and Safety, drafting HR related documents, and general HR projects. The successful candidate will have post secondary education in Human Resources (required), and a minimum of two years experience in customer service and/or administration. The HRA must have superior interpersonal and relationship building skills, a positive attitude, and strong cultural sensitivity.
This role is ideal for an entry level Human Resources professional looking to kick start their HR career and gain valuable experience. New grads are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with full cycle recruitment including creating job postings, position profiles, and interview guides; posting job advertisements; and conducting prescreens, interviews, reference checks, and offers (excluding senior level positions).
- Attend career fairs.
- Coordinate new hire onboarding, and assist with HR orientation for new hires and New Hire Checkins with staff.
- Assist with pension and benefits administration, including enrollments and disability leaves.
- Lead employee engagement initiatives and promote employee engagement, commitment, and motivation of employees by assisting with strategies to enhance morale and workplace culture.
- Assist with performance management, including performance management administration.
- Assist with Health and Safety (H&S) tasks and initiatives, including, preparing documentation, completing H&S checklists, developing H&S resources resources, etc.
- Assist with exit interviews and coordinate employee offboarding.
- Create memoranda, coorespondance, reports, letters, and other employment documentation.
- Maintain paper and electronic employee and HR files.
- Stay updated with legislation changes, compliance regulations and industry best practices and apply knowledge of employment legislation and government reporting regulations affecting HR functions.
- Ensure compliance with relevant employment and OHS legislation.
- Willingness and ability to work evening and weekends, and travel, as required.
- Willingness and ability to attend RLI events.
- Other duties as required.
Education and Experience:
- Post secondary education (Bachelor Degree preferred) in Human Resources is required. Applicants with no HR education will not be considered.
- Minimum of 2 years experience in customer service is required.
- Experience in administration is an asset.
- Experience in a non profit and Indigenous organization are assets

Skills and Qualifications:
- Knowledge of Métis history, culture, and people, is an asset.
- Strong knowledge of employment and health and safety legistlation is required.
- Knowledge of HR activities, including but not limited to, onboarding and orientation, benefits, employee engagement, performance management, employee relations, and offboarding.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, professionalism, and a positive attitude.
- A proven track record of building collaborative relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong cultural and political sensitivity and awareness.
- Strong sense of ethics and the ability to handle sensitive or private information with tact and discretion. Confidentiality is an essential requirement.
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and be adaptable and flexible to changing priorities; ability to handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
- Strong writing skills with the ability to write and prepare clear, concise written documents.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with various stakeholders.

- Adhere to ethical standards for Human Resources professionals by modeling appropriate behavior to balance the interests of all stakeholders.
