Job Summary:
Performs maintenance and repair duties related to building, grounds and equipment. Supervises contracted preventative maintenance on boilers, air conditioning units, electrical, plumbing and other related equipment in the facility. Inspects and maintains fire protection equipment and provides instruction/training to staff in safety and fire prevention hazards.
Qualifications:
Minimum of three years of recent related experience and/or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Red Seal in Carpentry or completion of level 3 apprenticeship in Carpentry is preferred.
Typical Duties:
- Performs general repair and maintenance duties in a variety of areas such as facility upkeep, basic plumbing, painting and equipment repairs.
- Troubleshoots and repairs systems as required or recommends certified trades or contractors for larger-scale, outside of scope repairs and maintenance, monitors maintenance contract work to ensure the adherence to facility requirements.
- Oversees preventative and on-demand maintenance of all building equipment.
- Preforms checks, tests and audits of safety and emergency equipment such as alarm systems.
- Tests and maintains auxiliary power generators and repairs/adjusts as required.
- Oversees and updates standards and procedures for designated area.
- Installs and repairs plumbing fixtures and systems such as taps, sinks and toilets, including extending and/or changing water supplies and waste lines.
- Maintains records of work completed and time expended, including periodic maintenance schedules and repairs. Maintains daily equipment and project records.
- Provides written reports to the Manager or designate regularly or as required.
- Performs maintenance on equipment, such as wheelchairs, beds and carts by disassembling, cleaning, oiling, greasing, replacing broken or worn parts, such as filters, bearings, seals, shafts, and reassembling equipment as required.
- Preforms repairs and maintenance in resident rooms as required. Supports the Support Service Department with project and terminal cleaning.
- Preforms snow removal from walkways and building entrances. Cleans roofs, gutters and drains. Picks up garbage as required.
- Uses and handles a variety of supplies and materials in accordance with Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) regulations.
- Ensures a safe and healthy working environment by observing universal (standard) precautions and infection control procedures; removing obvious hazards; reporting faulty equipment, accidents, injuries and near misses; and adhering to and enforcing rules regarding safety.
- Complies with departmental safety routines, policies, standards, operational procedures, WorkSafeBC BC regulations and attends departmental safety training and orientation on a regular scheduled basis. Ensures safety practices and procedures are adhered to.
- Performs other related duties as necessary.

Pay: $27.00-$32.00 per hour
