As an Advisor - Government, Grants and Policy within our Strategic & Executive Services department, you will be responsible for leading legislative analysis, policy research, and public sector grant coordination. They monitor municipal, provincial, and federal policy developments, assessing their impact on policing and public safety to inform strategic and operational planning and synthesize complex legislation into clear, actionable insights to guide executive decision-making and ensure alignment with evolving legal frameworks. They lead the identification, preparation, submission, management, and post-award administration of government grant applications, ensuring compliance, timely reporting, and successful implementation of funded initiatives. The Advisor also develops internal briefings, policy submissions, and reports to support knowledge transfer and participation in government consultations.

What will your typical day look like?

Identifies, develops, and submits government funding and grants that support the PRP’s strategic initiatives in collaboration with internal stakeholders, ensuring alignment with funding criteria and organizational priorities.
Coordinates and manages the full lifecycle of grant programs, including pre-submission planning, application development, post-award monitoring, reporting, and compliance with funding agreements and regulations.
Establishes internal processes to track grant deadlines, reporting obligations, and key performance indicators.
Prepares and submits detailed financial and progress reports to funding bodies, ensuring accountability and transparency.
Collaborates with internal departments to assess and prioritize funding opportunities for various projects and provides guidance on eligibility and risk mitigation.
Monitors compliance with funding agreements, prepares required reports, and liaises with funding agencies.
Monitors and analyzes proposed and relevant legislation, regulations, and policies to ensure organizational compliance and inform advocacy positions.
Informs members within the organization of the evolving policy and legislative environment; proactively monitors existing and proposed legislation and policy to determine their potential implications on the Service’s operations.
Develops and implements PRP’s government relations strategy to advance policing priorities; provides strategic advice to senior leadership on legislative, regulatory, and policy developments.
Establishes and maintains relationships with municipal, provincial, and federal government officials, elected representatives, and public servants. Coordinates meetings, presentations, and correspondence with government agencies and officials.
Develops briefing notes, policy position papers, presentations, submissions, and advocacy materials.
Receives and responds to matters from government officials and/or their offices in an appropriate and prompt manner.
Provides overarching support on government relations, including event management, protocol, and issues management.
Collaborates with internal departments to ensure consistent messaging and accurate information is shared with government officials.
Monitors and tracks municipal, regional, provincial, and federal policy changes and provides timely updates and reports to CMG on legislative actions and emerging public safety trends.
Monitors police service and industry group priorities to align PRP’s advocacy with broader public safety initiatives.
Organizes and participates in events, roundtables, and conferences related to policing and public safety.
Supports executive leadership in preparing for public hearings, consultations, and legislative committees.
Conducts research on best practices in policing policy and government relations.
Prepares reports and recommendations on emerging policy issues relevant to law enforcement.
Assesses the impact of legislative and policy changes on PRP’s operations and proposes strategic responses.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Enough about us, lets talk about you

You are someone with:

A University Degree in Political Science, Public Administration, Law, Criminology or equivalent related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
A minimum of five (5) years of experience in government relations, public policy, or advocacy, preferably in a law enforcement, public safety, or public sector environment.
MS365 - Intermediate
Demonstrated experience in legislative tracking, policy analysis, and grant writing.
Strong communication skills, along with sound judgment and strategic foresight.
Strong understanding of municipal, provincial, and federal government processes and law enforcement governance structures.
Demonstrated experience in/exposure to, the public safety related policy environment.
Experience building integrated and strategic stakeholder relations plans for a complex organization involving many stakeholders and implementing successful issues management practices.
Demonstrated experience in understanding the public sector environment including a proven competence in communicating and collaborating with political stakeholder groups at the federal, provincial and municipal level.
Experience in designing and executing end-to-end government relations plans/strategies an asset.
Demonstrated experience and competency in supporting and advising public sector executives, preferably at the municipal, provincial or federal level.
Demonstrated experience in developing multi jurisdictions/agencies communication/engagement strategies.
Possess a clear understanding of Ontario’s Lobbyist Registration Act and all related ethical business practices.
Possess a clear understanding of the provincial community safety and wellbeing framework.
Exceptional analytical, research and decision-making skills.
Demonstrated competency in relationship building and liaison.
Demonstrated coaching, mentoring and leadership skills.
Demonstrated policy and strategic business process development skills.
Demonstrated planning, time management and organizational skills.
Demonstrated strategic and innovative thinking.
Demonstrated success in cultivating internal and external organizational stakeholder relationships.
Demonstrated experience in marketing, brand and product/service management.
Valid Ontario Driver’s Licence (Class G) with full driving privileges.

The hourly range for this temporary, full-time position is $40.06 - $67.49. Please note that this vacancy is to replace a regular, full-time member.
