Clifton is currently searching for experienced Environmental Professionals to join our Site Assessment and Remediation team. We are considering candidates at either the Intermediate or Senior level, depending on experience, qualifications, and demonstrated capabilities. In this role, you will lead soil and groundwater investigations and remediation programs, manage client relationships and expectations, prepare and professionally stamp technical reports, develop proposals, support business development, train and mentor staff, and contribute to the success of our environmental projects and teams. The opportunity is intended for professionals with approximately five (5) to fifteen (15) years of experience executing, coordinating, and managing contaminated site assessment and remediation projects. Ideally, candidates will be located in Calgary, Edmonton, Regina, or Saskatoon; however, we are also open to qualified remote candidates located elsewhere in Alberta or Saskatchewan.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducting technical document reviews, interpreting environmental data, and designing soil, groundwater, and soil vapour assessment, delineation, and remediation programs.
- Managing the full project lifecycle for Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, groundwater monitoring and sampling programs, soil vapour assessments, and remediation programs, including scope, schedule and budget management, subcontractor coordination, field staff direction, health and safety requirements, and project close-out.
- Serving as the primary day-to-day client contact in the overall technical and administrative management of their environmental projects.
- Liaising with regulators and stakeholders on behalf of clients.
- Leading project teams and providing technical oversight, direction, and support to professionals and technicians performing project-related office and field work.
- Preparing and professionally stamping technical reports, preparing proposals, and conducting peer reviews of professional work products.
- Training and mentoring staff in the proper execution of field activities and use of equipment.
- Developing and maintaining client relationships and supporting the group’s business development activities.
- Acting as a safety leader and champion for Clifton’s health and safety program.
- Ensuring adherence to Clifton’s Quality Management System (QMS) in project delivery, including contracts management.
- Other duties, as required.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, or a related geoscience field.
- Current registration as a Professional Engineer, Professional Geoscientist, or Licensee with APEGA or APEGS; or as a Qualified Environmental Professional with another applicable professional organization (e.g. Professional Biologist, Chemist, or Agrologist). Candidates registered in another Canadian jurisdiction must be eligible for professional registration in Alberta or Saskatchewan.
- Approximately five (5) to fifteen (15) years of direct experience in contaminated site assessment and management.
- Proven ability to independently manage contaminated site assessment and remediation projects from initiation through completion.
- Direct field experience with intrusive investigations, including borehole drilling, soil sampling and logging, and groundwater monitoring well installation, development, monitoring and sampling. Soil vapour probe installation and sampling experience is an asset.
- Technical report writing experience as the primary author, including Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, management plans, monitoring reports, and remediation-related reports.
- Technical knowledge of soil, groundwater and soil vapour assessment methods, with an interest in further developing expertise in risk management, risk assessment, and remediation.
- Effective organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet project deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, lead project teams, and effectively delegate project tasks.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite of products.
- Commitment to workplace health and safety and maintaining safe work environments.
