The Automotive Technician will diagnose problems with vehicles and equipment and carry out major and / or minor scheduled or non-scheduled repairs, maintenance and / or overhaul on all vehicles and equipment, at both the garage and at various job-sites. This role assigns tasks and / or provide guidance to staff assigned to assist with repair, maintenance and / or overhaul of vehicles and equipment, ensuring work is done correctly.
- High School Grade 12 graduation or equivalent plus an additional program of over one year and up to two years
- Current Truck & Coach Technician (T) license, and
- Current Automotive Service Technician (S) license required.
- Over 5 years current related experience including required apprentice hours.
- Valid Ontario Driver’s license – Class DZ required with a satisfactory abstract must be maintained
- Industry standard tool box and hand tools with ability to perform duties as assigned
- Proven mechanical aptitude with sound knowledge of heavy equipment and diesel engines
- Good understanding of seasonal nature of fleet operations in a municipal setting
- Proven communication skills (both oral and written)
- Proven time management skills
- Proven ability to work independently
- Must be physically able to perform the work
- Current First Aid and CPR required

The incumbent is responsible for, but not limited to:
- Provide and demonstrate commitment to the Haldimand County code of conduct and all other policies approved by Council.
- Provide effective customer service to sustain the positive image of the Corporation in Haldimand County.
- Diagnose problems with vehicles and equipment and carry out major and / or minor scheduled or non-scheduled repair, maintenance and / or overhaul on all vehicles and equipment, at both the garage and at various job-sites.
- Assign tasks and / or provide guidance to staff assigned to assist with repair, maintenance and / or overhaul of vehicles and equipment, ensuring work is done correctly.
- Advise Fleet Coordinator – Parts and Service if supplies are needed; to sign out supplies when they are needed.
- Reports and Recordkeeping
- Complete daily administration procedures to maintain accurate documentation of projects and activities (for example, daily log book, service repair sheets, work orders).
- Health & Safety
- Be accountable for the safe use, upkeep and housekeeping of County assigned resources including fleet and yard.
- Carry out maintenance and housekeeping duties at the garage/Kohler facility to ensure a tidy and safe workspace.
