Responsibilities:
As a Design Engineer at Konstant, you will report to the Engineering Manager to ensure accuracy and compliance to organizational standards. Your specific responsibilities include:
Storage System Engineering Design – interpreting customer sales requests, proposing steel storage system designs that creatively optimize warehouse space utilization and evaluating the load bearing capacity and stability of rack / shelving structures; this requires applying strong analytical skills in the structural design, that include second-order effects and seismic loads, of value-engineered systems using available product lines comprising of cold-formed and structural steel sections; proven experience with AutoCAD, modelling software (RISA 3D) and FEA software is required
Engineering Review and Certification – preparing and reviewing technical drawings and specifications of industrial rack, shelving and multi-tier storage systems for completeness, accuracy and compliance with current applicable codes (NBCC, IBC) and standards (CSA S136, CSA S16, CSA W59, ASCE 7); preparing and P.Eng. stamping of technical documents, including installation, PSR / permit, and fabrication CAD drawings, for engineering approval; performing field inspections as required for quality assurance and general conformity
Technical Support – providing timely engineering support to internal sales, design and manufacturing personnel, project managers, customers, consultants, and other sub-contractors; this includes resolving unforeseen product design, manufacturing, and assembly issues during the span of a project

R&D Special Projects – assisting with special projects that will further develop Konstant’s engineering capabilities and initiatives (e.g. maintaining accurate engineering analysis worksheets for company-wide use, actively participating in the development and assessment of new product designs, product testing, etc.)
Ancillary Duties – providing design and project management assistance when demand dictates; this includes preparing or revising drawings and bills of material, coordinating building permit submittals, performing peer reviews, etc.
The first three items listed above are considered primary responsibilities which represent a sizeable portion of a Design Engineer’s typical work day.
The role of a Design Engineer inherently involves constant communication and interaction with Design, Sales, Manufacturing, and BT personnel to successfully manage projects. This final responsibility flows through each of the preceding five responsibilities.
You are required to maintain technical competence and acquire new job-relevant knowledge and skills through self-study and by participating in training or other learning activities offered by Konstant. It is also expected that work is performed beyond normal working hours to meet critical project milestones.
