As an experienced transportation planner/engineer, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of transportation projects. You will provide immediate supervision and guidance to a unit or group of employees, assigning tasks, checking work at frequent intervals for accuracy and completeness, and maintaining schedules.
The ideal candidate has the ability to solve complex problems using sound professional judgement, creativity, and innovation including effective coordination of internal and external constituents, demonstrated experience on various planning and engineering projects, effective meeting facilitation skills and strong knowledge of regulatory requirements.
Position will be full-time employment and workplace could be either our Wellington Street office located in Downtown Toronto (Wellington & Spadina) or our Markham Office.
Your Key Responsibilities
Responsible for planning, scheduling, conducting, and coordinating the technical aspects of assigned projects
Conducts transportation planning and traffic analyses, with an emphasis on contributing in a transportation modelling capacity
Obtains traffic, GIS and land use data, prepares technical reports, performs calculations, and conducts various transportation studies
Coordinates with clients, regulatory/resource agencies, and local governments
Provides quality assurance and quality control for all final products to ensure technical accurateness and regulatory compliance
Assists in coordinating with clients/consultants in resolving technical project issues, presenting reports and designs, and providing service to meet client’s goals
Performs due diligence and research on projects as required to provide the background information to start a new project
Assists with the preparation of proposals, project reporting and other marketing endeavors
Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Ability to solve complex problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation
Experience working on engineering and planning projects
Strong experience using MS Excel / Access as well as modelling packages such as Emme, VISUM, TransCad, Aimsun or VISSIM
Knowledge and experience using GIS
Strong knowledge of provincial and municipal legal requirements, and design/planning procedures in relevant jurisdictions
Good technical writing skills; capable of creating reports, letters and specifications as well as oral communication
Takes initiative on tasks and in coordinating with other members of the team
Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Planning, Engineering, Computer Science, Economics or related field. Prefer P.Eng. or RPP Certification. Minimum of 5 years of experience.
Typical office environment working with computers. Some travel may be required, such as delivering plans or documents to reviewing agencies or clients or to attend meetings. May occasionally visit study areas, construction sites and/or be exposed to outside elements and inclement weather conditions.
