CAD Electrical Design Technologist
Utility Solutions Corporation is currently seeking a CAD Electrical Design Technologist with strong verbal communication skills, customer service and conflict resolution skills to work in our Toronto office. Working on the electrical and civil design of overhead and underground distribution projects (e.g., hydro pole lines, wires, transformers, switches, UG cable, etc.) the Technologist will be responsible for producing designs, schematics and plans and interacting with our clients. Familiarity with utility electric and civil construction standards and design practices is essential for this position. Responsibilities:
- Prepare preliminary and detailed drawings for the electrical and civil design of overhead and underground distribution systems ;
- Perform site visits to validate scope requirements and determine existing asset conditions, and prepare site survey reports;
- Ensure design work conforms to all applicable codes and standards;
- Produce bills of material and material requisitions;
- Perform cable pulling, guying, voltage drop and other calculations;
- Perform material and labour cost estimates;
- Circulate proposed design drawings to client for review and provide revisions as required;
- Interface with other design disciplines and stakeholders, either internal or external;
- Complete applications for ESA or municipal construction permits;
- Prepare technical input for reports, specifications, proposals, project schedules and cost estimates;
- Assist intermediate and senior staff with responding to client requirements;
- Report regularly to the Project Manager on project status;
- Perform and assist with additional duties and tasks as assigned from time to time.
Qualifications:
- 2 to 5 years of experience in electrical design, preferably in the energy sector and including low and medium voltage systems;
- A post-secondary degree or diploma in Electrical Technology (focused on Power Distribution Systems is preferred). We will consider a combination of education and experience in performing similar work equivalent to our requirements;
- Registered as an Engineering Technologist/Technician and in good standing with OACETT;
- Familiarity with low and medium voltage distribution equipment (cables, transformers, switches, switchgear, etc.);
- Working knowledge of the OESC, CSA and IEEE standards, O.Reg. 22/04, typical equipment dimension, connection details etc.;
- Familiarity with cable routing, detailed design of conduit systems, cable terminations and supports, etc.;
- Knowledge of principles and practices in the electrical construction industry, especially with replacement projects;
- Excellent proficiency of CAD and other design software (e.g., AutoCad, MicroStation);
- Experience and knowledge in cost estimation;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills especially with customers;

- Valid Ontario driver’s license;

Pay: $55,350.00-$69,200.00 per year
