Job Summary:
The Business Intelligence, Database Analyst (BI DBA) is responsible for transforming WCB operational data into information that is stored and managed utilizing WCB data warehouses. The incumbent maintains the foundation technology and data for all advanced analysis and research for WCB to improve programs, develop new methods and gain understanding of the changing work conditions in Manitoba.
Job Duties:
Leads the data warehouse solution design, development and implementation including Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) BI Semantic Models, Extract/Transform/Load (ETL), and OLAP development.
Contributes to standards and frameworks for data modelling, data integration/ETL and reporting and ensure these are being consistently used in the design and development of all relevant solutions.
Ensures new business intelligence applications integrate and comply with the business intelligence architecture.
Keeps abreast of the latest trends in business intelligence technologies and practice, technologies on application integration, process management and service-orientated application development.
Maintains and continually improves practices that achieve high quality of Business Intelligence assets and improve confidence in data, processes, and development disciplines.
Ensures compliance of WCB business intelligence database standards and guidelines by developing and maintaining documentation pertinent to standards, methodology, and operational procedures.
Participates in the acquisition, implementation and installation of acquired hardware and/or software for data warehousing applications.
Manages the data warehouse performance and tuning.
Ensures the business intelligence applications and databases are pro-actively maintained and available for Business and Project teams to use.
Works closely with Information Technology to ensure the platforms supporting the business intelligence applications are in optimal condition.
Works closely with Information Technology to administer BI Portals, including developer and user security & access.
Installs, configures, maintains and upgrades database management systems.
Coordinates any changes to the configuration of the business intelligence applications.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Four (4) year Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science from a recognized post-secondary institution
Five (5) years' experience working as a Database Analyst preferably building and designing Data Warehouses
Expertise in relational and multidimensional database schemas, designing and building OLAP (online analytical processing) cubes, writing queries and designing reports
Experience installing and configuring a database management system (DBMS), preferably Microsoft SQL Server
Experience developing SharePoint dashboards and scorecards, Excel Services, PerformancePoint Services, Chart Web Parts, KPI status indicator and Business Connectivity Services (BCS)
Experience using SQL Service Integration Services (SSIS) to implement complex normalization and transformation logic to load data into a data warehouse from disparate data sources
Experience using SQL Server Analysis Services functionality
Experience using SQL Reporting Services (SSRS) to create interactive, tabular, graphical, or free-form reports from relational, multidimensional, or XML-based data sources
Experience developing SQL data warehouse with metadata-driven mapping to support customer analysis capabilities
Advanced experience and knowledge of MS SQL, DAX/MDX programming
Knowledge of Microsoft BI Semantic Model vision and tools such as PowerPivot, PowerView & PowerQuery; MS Azure and Power BI and operating systems, networking software, and data security in general
Strong analytical skills and experience are required for the tasks of troubleshooting a data warehouse server and carrying out data warehouse design
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Microsoft Certified Solution Associate (MCSA) for SQL 2008 or 2012, Microsoft Certified Solution Expert for Business Intelligence (MCSE BI) or Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA) considered an asset
Ability to develop/configure BI Web Parts using SharePoint Services considered an asset
Ability to communicate proficiently in both official languages (English & French) is an asset, but is not required
