About the role
The Finance Director is a key strategic leader responsible for the financial stewardship, governance, and overall fiscal health of the organization. Reporting to executive leadership, this role oversees all finance and accounting functions, including financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, treasury management, compliance, internal controls, and operational finance. The Finance Director partners closely with clinical and business leaders to provide strategic financial insight, drive performance, support growth initiatives, and ensure the long-term sustainability of the organization. Through strong leadership, rigorous financial oversight, and a commitment to continuous improvement, the incumbent enhances operational efficiency, strengthens financial controls, and supports informed decision-making across the business. Success in this role requires exceptional analytical and leadership capabilities, an entrepreneurial and solutions-focused mindset, and a genuine commitment to collaboration, excellence, and innovation. Main Duties & Responsibilities
General
- Collaborate effectively with team members across departments
- Consistently arrive at work, appointments, meetings, and events on time

- Complete all required training to perform job duties effectively
Core Financial Management
- Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and month-end/year-end close
- Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
- Ensure compliance with ASPE or IFRS, as applicable
- Coordinate external audits and respond to auditor requests
Budgeting & Financial Planning
- Lead annual budgeting and forecasting processes
- Monitor clinic performance against budget
- Analyze revenue, expenses, margins, and cash flow
- Identify opportunities to improve profitability and operational efficiency
- Prepare financial reports and dashboards for executives and shareholders
Healthcare & Fertility-Specific Revenue Management
- Monitor OHIP-funded and privately funded fertility services
- Oversee billing, collections, and revenue recognition for IVF cycles, fertility preservation, diagnostic services, medication programs, IV Program, third-party reproductive services, storage fees and collection
- Ensure accuracy of patient accounts and payment plans
- Support pricing analysis and service profitability reviews
Cash Flow & Treasury Management
- Manage cash flow forecasting
- Oversee banking relationships
- Monitor working capital and liquidity
- Approve payments and manage financial risk
- Ensure sufficient funding for operations, equipment, and growth initiatives
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with: Ontario employment legislation, CRA requirements, HST regulations, Healthcare-related financial controls
- Maintain strong internal controls to protect patient and corporate assets
- Support privacy and financial data-security requirements
Team Leadership
- Manage finance staff, develop team objectives, KPIs, performance plans, reviews
- Mentor accountants, analysts, and coordinators
- Ensure appropriate segregation of duties and workflow management
Strategic & Executive Support
- Provide financial insights to the CEO, CFO, CGO, or ownership group
- Participate in strategic planning and growth initiatives
- Support new clinic openings, acquisitions, partnerships
- Prepare financial models and business cases for major projects
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related discipline
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation required
- At least 8 years of progressive accounting and finance experience
- At least 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role
- Proven experience supporting senior executives and business strategy
- Experience within healthcare, fertility, medical practice, or multi-site environment preferred
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, treasury, internal controls, financial planning and analysis (FP&A), and revenue recognition
- Advanced understanding of ASPE, CRA regulations, PHIPA requirements, audit processes, and financial compliance standards
- Proven experience developing and strengthening financial controls, policies, governance frameworks, and standard operating procedures
- Demonstrated success identifying process improvements, driving operational efficiencies, optimizing costs, and supporting organizational growth
- Experience leading or supporting finance transformation initiatives, including process automation, system enhancements, ERP implementations, and digital transformation projects.
- Strong understanding of healthcare billing processes, collections management, medical billing systems, and OHIP-related reconciliations
- Ability to support executive leadership with financial analysis, reporting, business cases, forecasting, and strategic decision-making
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including complex formulas, financial modelling, PivotTables, QuickBooks Online, Power Query, and data analysis tools
- Experience with accounting and ERP systems including NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Microsoft Dynamics, SAP, Oracle, QuickBooks Enterprise and related financial reporting platforms.
- Strong understanding of general ledger structures, financial statement preparation, and technical financial reporting requirements
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to identify risks, opportunities, and actionable business insights
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and adapt effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Exceptional communication, presentation, stakeholder management, coaching, and conflict-resolution skills
- Proven ability to build collaborative relationships across departments and effectively lead, motivate, and develop high-performing teams
- High degree of professionalism, integrity, discretion, and commitment to maintaining confidentiality
- Medical clinic office experience is an asset
