This is recreation leadership work implementing a variety of social, cultural or recreational activities within Confederation Community Centre, including services for senior citizens and in supervising seasonal and part-time staff, contractual instructors and volunteers engaged in related tasks. The Recreation Leader 2 prepares, leads and promotes interest in individual program plans and schedules and directs the implementation of program activities; provides leadership, coaching or instruction; assesses program results and recommends any changes. Establishes and maintains close liaison with community groups and the general public; prepares promotional material and addresses various groups relative to program offerings; provides guidance, advice and referrals as required; reviews and makes recommendations as to program offerings. The incumbent prepares and maintains records, activity reports, schedules, requisitions and maintains equipment and supply inventories. Enforces rules and regulations and ensures that required standards of behaviour and safety are maintained. The Recreation Leader 2 may be required to identify and assess facility needs and to plan, develop, coordinate and evaluate a variety of programs and activities for Confederation Community Centre. Participates in the recruitment of and gives guidance and instruction to part-time recreation program and auxiliary staff and contract instructors including training, directing and evaluating volunteers. In the absence of a supervisor, the incumbent assumes responsibility for the operation and security of a recreation facility. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include completion of a two year Community Recreation program from a recognized Community College and some related experience; St. John's First Aid and CPR Certificates are desirable; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Sound knowledge of the recreational, social, and cultural interests and requirements and resources of the Centre. Ability to organize, coordinate, participate in and provide leadership in recreational, social, and cultural program activities of Seniors 55+; to identify and assess recreational, cultural, and social needs and to plan, develop and evaluate programs for older adults within the recreation facility; and to assist in coordinating and administering operations and programs for older adults. Ability to recruit, instruct, evaluate and supervise part-time recreational staff and contractual instructors and to recruit, train, direct and evaluate volunteers; to prepare and maintain records, reports and promotional material related to the work. A valid Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia is required.
Schedule: 70 hours bi-weekly; Monday and Thursday from 1:00 PM – 9:00 PM; Tuesday and Friday 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM; Wednesday 9:30 AM – 5:30 PM.
