The Content Writer works on the Projects & Innovation Team to produce content for various media (e.g. text books, field guides, online courses, instructional activities) on diverse topics under the umbrella of Prevention & Safety. In addition to writing and revising text, the Content Writer acts as project lead, working with the Project Manager and Manager, Content Production to coordinate design and translation of produced content.


Produces, edits, and proofs effective written content

Employs various writing styles, tailoring language, structure, etc. to the objectives and audience (e.g., children, teens, adults, professionals, Instructors).
Creates copy that demonstrates the personality of the Canadian Red Cross’s brand, maintains consistency between products, and adheres to style standards, spelling, and grammar.
Revises content based on feedback from pilot processes, subject matter experts, etc.
Coordinates a diverse workload with sometimes demanding and/or competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Edits and proofs content according to provided style guides.
Coordinates content development

Coordinates with design, translation, subject matter experts, and others as necessary to develop compelling content that adheres to strategy and is completed effectively.
Works with designers to ensure that product design meets the requirements for the project.
Supports the translation cycle for written content.
Supports program development in managing aspects of the content process and ensures quality standards are upheld

Maintains business continuity in a disaster response.
Contributes to a healthy and safe working environment.
Performs other duties, as required.


The minimum qualifications for this job are a bachelor’s degree in a related field and 2-3 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of the two. Knowledge of Red Cross Programs and French fluency are assets.

The ability to creatively address the needs of diverse audiences through written content
Superior writing and editing skills
An understanding of graphic design and the interplay between textual and visual elements
An understanding of instructional design principles and the ability to develop effective educational materials
The ability to work with tight timelines on multiple projects simultaneously and to effectively juggle competing demands
The ability to build positive relationships with others and take direction
A superior eye for detail; confidence in proofreading materials for accuracy and consistency
The ability to be self-motivated, resourceful, and results driven
Experience working collaboratively as an effective member of a project team
Comfortable learning new technologies and using technologies to their full potential
Excellent computer skills and proficiency with Office Suite, directories, and file sharing systems


The majority of the work is performed in an office environment. This is a remote role, the working location is flexible within Canada. If working away from a Red Cross office, must have a dedicated space to work from; must be proactive and seek out relevant information and take initiative to contact others; must be able to work without direct supervision and meet project time lines; and must have effective time management skills. Overtime hours may occasionally be required, often with short notice based on project deadlines. Domestic travel may be required.
