North Fraser Youth Outreach Program
Position: North Fraser Youth First Outreach Worker (NFYFOW)
35 hours per week -- $24 per hour
Lower Mainland Purpose Society is currently in search of a Permanent Full-Time North Fraser Youth Outreach Program Worker for our Integrated Youth Services team. The successful candidate will have a combination of education, knowledge, and training of adolescent development, mental health, and criminogenic needs, as well as a deep understanding of youth issues and applicable services available in the community. The worker will also have the ability to build strong relationships with youth through mentorship and collaborate with clients and care teams to develop tailored service plans which identify prevailing strengths and challenges to foster growth.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Work from a person-centered, strengths-based approach to assess strengths and needs of youth and families.
- Provide one-to-one support and outreach of youth who have multiple risk factors including: mental health, addictions, and complex behaviors such as FASD and/or developmental delays and/or are involved in high-risk activities (e.g. sexual exploitation, criminal activity, street involvement, or self-harm).
- One-to-one service to adjudicated and non-adjudicated youth.
- Provide goal-focused intervention through assessing client needs and developing service plans to assist youth/family achieve objectives.
- Provide support and education to family/caregiver where required.
- Community outreach.
- Provide life skills training in both individual and group settings.
- Maintain timely and accurate reports and file documentation in accordance with COA administrative and service standards.
- Work in a collaborative practice model with community agencies and organizations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Bachelor of Arts in the social sciences or human services or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in the field of youth and family services.
- Knowledge of working with mental health and complex developmental behavioural conditions.
- Knowledge of adolescent development and issues related to at-risk youth.
- Knowledge of sexual exploitation and experience working with sexually exploited youth.
- Knowledge of the legislation and policies that govern service delivery in the social service sector.
- Knowledge of collaborative practice and working effectively with a variety of community partners.
- Well-developed interpersonal, counselling, oral and written communication skills.
- Strong organization and time management skills.
- Exceptional report writing skills.
- Class 5 license and vehicle required; Class 4 or willingness to get.
- Must be willing to work flexible hours, some evening/weekend work required.
- First Aid certification required.
