Reports to: The General Sales Manager will report to the General Manager of the dealership.
Job Overview: The General Sales Manager is the lead of the sales department and the main individual responsible for making sure the sales department hits targets and exceeds profitability expectations. Tasked with everything sales related this role hires, trains, and dismisses sales members while making sure that all decisions are in line with dealership goals and long-term profitability.
Responsibilities and duties
- Oversee daily operations of the sales department and assume responsibility for profitability on all confirmed sales
- Evaluate the operations of the automotive sales consultants
- Ensure that the business sales department is selling and delivering vehicles while keeping in line with the goal of attaining high customer service levels
- Develop annual budgets and targets for the department
- Plan and schedule all sales members and ensure coverage of all sales floors during open hours
- Plan and schedule all receptionists and ensure coverage of all sales floors during open hours
- Assist in the acquisition and sale of new and pre-owned vehicles
- Assign and record all training requirements to sales team and ensure all staff are up to date on all required sales procedures and requirements
- Effectively recruit, train, manage, and develop the sales team
- Hold regular sales meetings and set targets for the team
- Control and manage the costs and profitability of the sales department
- Collaborate with other department managers to ensure high levels of customer service
- Collaborate with marketing to ensure strong marketing campaigns that are in line with sales objectives and current incentives
- Confirm and order new vehicles
- Perform other duties as required
Qualifications:
- Post secondary Degree or Diploma in Business, Automotive, or other related area
- 3-5 years of management experience (Preferred)
- 3-5 years of automotive experience (Preferred)
- Experience in car sales is considered an asset
- Must have the ability to lead a team, organizing, developing, and training them as needed
- Strong leadership skills
- Able to build and maintain lasting relationships
- High level of proficiency with Microsoft office suite
- Must possess a valid drivers license with a clean abstract
