Position Overview:
The Controller will play a critical role in managing and overseeing the financial activities at the RMC Group of Companies. Primary responsibilities include ensuring accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, maintaining internal controls, and providing strategic financial insights to support the company's growth and operational efficiency.
Requirements:
- Direct the day-to-day actions of the accounting department including inter-company accounting, cash management/reconciliation, financial reporting, and balance sheet management.
- Adhere to and enforce accounting policies, methods, and principles in accordance with generally accepted
- principles and legislation.
- Ensure compliance with government regulations
- Develop and manage annual budgets and financial forecasts in collaboration with senior management.
- Establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure the accuracy of financial information.
- Complete internal audits to ensure accuracy and correctness.
- Review year-end packages and coordinate with external auditors.
- Oversee management and control of inventory held in multiple locations.
- Monitor cash flow, working capital, and liquidity to ensure the company has adequate resources to meet its financial obligations.
- Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely and accurate transactions.
- Meet strategic financial objectives by collaborating with division/department leaders.
- Prepare financial statements by leveraging the data available in multiple accounting software, making recommendations for improvements/efficiencies when necessary.
- Streamline systems and processes and initiate corrective actions when necessary.
- Oversee software selection, implementation, and migration processes.
- Create and maintain fiscal records and other files to accurately document transactions.
- Stay up to date with financial trends, policies, procedures, and legislation by attending workshops, conferences and other educational opportunities
- Assign projects and delegate work to team members, to ensuring accuracy and compliance with company
- policies, legislation, and accounting principles.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and mentoring to accounting department including the accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, and accounting teams.
- Approve and manage vacation scheduling for the finance team ensuring ample coverage during absences.
- Hire, on-boarding, and train new team members.
- Performance manage direct reports including creating and facilitating performance improvement plans, performance development plans, and performance reviews as required.
- Champion safety culture by promoting a safe work environment, participating in weekly HSE
- meetings, wearing PPE while on site, etc.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- Successful completion of CPA designation.
- 3-5 years of accounting experience at a senior level.
- 1+ years of previous experience managing a team.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, Dynamics, ERP systems) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, specifically project based accounting.
- Experience working in the concrete or construction industry is an asset.

Work Environment:
This position is primarily office based. Infrequent travel to worksites in Edmonton and area may be required.
Hours of Work:
Typical hours of work are 8:00am to 5:00pm Monday through Friday. However, overtime may be required during peak season,
