To keep up with the demands of this fast-paced, dynamic industry, Varcon is expanding, and we have an exciting opportunity for a Lead Field Inspector to join our team. The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of, and experience in, the various types of field inspections in the telecommunications industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the inspection of communication towers, ensuring thorough completion and review of inspection notes, adherence to safety and procedural protocols, and timely, accurate completion of all required reports.
- Ensure a comprehensive understanding of the scope of work and client requirements to produce high-quality, compliant inspection reports, while also mentoring junior staff to develop their knowledge and attention to detail.
- Lead the training and mentorship of new employees, ensuring they meet Varcon’s high standards of safety and technical expertise.
- Perform field inspections of communication towers, which will require climbing and working at heights across various tower types and diverse locations.
- Climb and inspect communication towers in accordance with the CSA S37 Code, ensuring compliance with all relevant safety and industry standards.
- Ensure all safety protocols, including tower climbing and rescue certifications, are up to date and followed on-site.
- Coordinate site visits with external parties to ensure smooth operation.
- Write and perform peer reviews of inspection reports, identifying any deficiencies and ensuring accuracy before submission to clients.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Structural Engineering or a Diploma as an Engineering Technologist.
- 2+ years of experience in telecommunications field inspections, with a deep understanding of Canadian codes and standards.
- Certification in tower climbing and rescue, with a willingness to travel and perform inspections for up to 2 weeks at a time.
