Position title: Quality Systems Manager- Restaurant Food Safety
Department: Supply Chain Management
Position band: Supervisor/Consultant
Reports to: Senior Manager Quality Systems
Type of position: Full-Time (6-month Contract)
The Opportunity
This role is a temporary leave coverage opportunity on the Canadian Quality Systems team reporting to the Senior Manager Quality Systems. The candidate has a national responsibility for restaurant food safety, and to assure Global McDonald’s policy and Canadian Public Health Regulatory compliance. This includes working closely with restaurants, Field Service, National Operations, Quality Systems, suppliers and service providers to validate all system compliance activities and processes to assure we maintain our #1 QSR for food safety in our market.

Principal Accountabilities
In addition to following McDonald’s Global and Canadian policies and procedures, and Canadian Public Health requirements, principal accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

Providing technical expertise to internal and external stakeholder groups to help crew assure compliance to Public Health and McDonald’s internal food safety requirements. Works with National and Global restaurant Operations in the development of tools and procedures to ensure delivery of high-quality performance.

Leads the vendor relationship, testing and deployment for new food safety programs while managing existing programs such as Third-Party Restaurant Audits and Digital Food Safety.

Proven Project management experience, minimum 3 years.

Superior analytical, reporting/dashboarding, risk assessment and conceptual ideation skills.

Strong presentation and facilitation skills and exposure to senior management.

Proactively addressing potential food safety and quality risks by staying abreast of leading science, industry trends and regulation and responding quickly when issues arise.

Developing and enforcing standards and processes that ensure the safety and quality of our food from farm to fork and work within aggressive product development timelines to develop restaurant food safety support requirements and associated training or documentation.

Conduct quarterly reviews and reporting for Restaurant Food Safety & Quality metrics and provide guidance and advice in developing corrective and preventative measures when negative trends arise.

Initiating and monitoring corrective actions in the event of non-conformance and/or guest food product complaints.

Make concise decisions to escalate restaurant emergencies for Operational action needs, establish and maintain necessary documentation.

Pest Prevention/IPM knowledge an asset.

Managing communication with Regional Health Departments and government authorities, when required.

Representing the Canadian Organization on Global Corporate Quality Systems project teams to assure the Restaurant Food Safety and Canadian perspective are heard.

Participate on local cross functional CAPA or Kaizen Event type projects representing the Restaurant Food Safety perspective.

Lead training and communication efforts to continue to nurture and evolve our Food Safety Culture.

Review, interpretation and coaching of audit outcomes to the field teams.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in food science, Nutritional Science or equivalent.

Public Health Food Handler and Inspection certifications an asset.

Experience in food and/or foodservice industry (5 years) preferably with pre-requisite or food safety systems.

Fluent in Microsoft office, Adobe, Power BI/dashboarding, Microsoft Teams and SharePoint, Change Management, Document control.

Fluent in English (reading, writing, speaking) and French an asset.

Canadian Public Health, Safe Food for Canadians regulations and Food and Drug Act and regulations knowledge.

Ability to communicate effectively with Health Canada, Regional/Municipal Public Health, Canadian Food Inspection Agency or industry Councils.

Crisis or recall experience an asset.

Ability to communicate effectively with all manner of audiences, including executive leadership.

Ability to positively influence others in ways that inspire them to take action and/or change perspective.
