We are looking to fill the position of senior accountant for a mechanical contracting company in South Burnaby that has been in business for over 50 years. This role would be the perfect fit for an individual who likes to have exposure to multiple areas of a business. The main functions of the role will be to prepare payroll, progress billings and collections, with some AP duties. The role will report directly to the controller. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented individual with a strong background in accounting to make a significant impact within our organization.
Duties:
- Oversee the integrity and accuracy of the general ledger system, ensuring proper recording of transactions and adherence to accounting principles
- Review and approve journal entries, ensuring proper documentation and support for all entries.
- Conduct periodic reviews of account reconciliations to identify and resolve discrepancies.
- Develop, implement, and maintain effective internal control procedures to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance
- Oversee and review AP and AR processes internally and coordinate payments and follow-ups with our suppliers and customers
- Manage accurate and timely month-end close reporting requirements
- Prepare payroll and remittances
- Remittances for GST, WCB, and Union Dues.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education, with a minimum of three to five years experience
- Good understanding of complex organizational structures and the flow of funds between entities
- Great attention to details
- Exceptional time management skills, and the ability to multi-task
- CPA designation considered an asset
- Construction or project related experience an asset
- Strong ability to work well under pressure
- Excellent oral, written communication skills, and follow up skills
- A team player with a positive attitude
- Experience working with Microsoft Suite, especially Excel
- Quick learner and adaptable to a dynamic environment
- Exceptional analytical and decision-making skills
- Self-starter with a high level of ownership and accountability

· $70K-$80K
