Summary
The Sprinkler System Apprentice assists qualified sprinkler fitters with the installation, maintenance, testing, inspection, and repair of fire protection systems in commercial, industrial, institutional, and residential buildings. This entry-level position provides hands-on training while working toward apprenticeship certification under Manitoba apprenticeship requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with the installation of fire sprinkler piping, fittings, valves, hangers, and related components.
- Help measure, cut, thread, groove, and assemble steel and plastic piping.
- Load, unload, and organize tools, equipment, and materials at job sites.
- Support testing, inspection, and maintenance activities on fire sprinkler systems.
- Read and interpret basic construction drawings, sprinkler layouts, and work instructions.
- Operate hand tools, power tools, and equipment safely under supervision.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas.
- Follow all workplace safety procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Assist with documenting completed work, inspections, and deficiencies.
- Work collaboratively with foremen, journeypersons, general contractors, and other trades.
- Travel to various job sites as required.
Qualifications:
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Class 5 driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting up to 50 lbs (23 kg).
- Ability to work at heights, on ladders, and in confined spaces.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to company safety policies and procedures.
- Ability to pass and clear security and background checks
Preferred:
- Enrollment in or interest in the Manitoba Sprinkler Systems Installer Apprenticeship Program.
- Construction, mechanical, or trades experience.
Career Development
- This position offers a pathway to becoming a certified Sprinkler Systems Installer (Sprinkler Fitter) through Manitoba Apprenticeship Manitoba, with opportunities for advancement to Journeyperson, Foreman, Project Coordinator, or Estimator roles.
Renumeration
- Hourly wage and compensation equal to industry CBA experience level
