Technical Writer

The Technical Writer will be responsible for writing and editing product instruction manuals, Quick Start Guides, and online FAQs and consumer articles. They will work closely with the QA, marketing, and product management teams to understand and ensure adequate information is presented to the consumer through documentation for product setup. They must be able to write, organize, proof-read, edit, format, and deliver audience-appropriate technical documentation with the appropriate graphical components for documentation (photography, image manipulation, line art, etc.).


Provide written technical information in a clear and concise manner suitable for CCTV installers and end users:

  • Format documentation using the established templates and style guides, and using the appropriate software tools (XML, InDesign, Dreamweaver)
  • Create graphical components for documentation (screen captures, photography, line art, etc.)
  • Write, organize, proof-read, edit, format, and deliver audience-appropriate technical documentation and marketing content
  • Prepare documents for translation
  • Promote content reuse to reduce development and translation costs

Product Documentation can include any of the following:

  • Hardware, software, and firmware manuals
  • Product specifications
  • Quick-start, quick-connection, and quick-networking guides
  • Online FAQs and articles
  • Descriptions and graphics for App Store postings
  • Software/firmware release notes
  • Compatibility matrices
  • Support articles
  • Online tutorials

Maintain Existing Product Documentation:

  • Manage online knowledge bases of articles and FAQs
  • Maintain online repository of manuals, software, and firmware
  • Perform updates to manuals, FAQs, and product setup guides

Coordinate with Other Departments:

  • Coordinate with marketing and product management to ensure project schedules are maintained
  • Provide technical review and feedback for marketing materials
  • Update support content based on technical support and customer service feedback to mitigate product issues
  • Coordinate with quality assurance and engineering to confirm product specifications and ensure product documentation reflects product changes


  • Undergraduate Degree in a Professional Writing or equivalent, or a Certificate in Technical Writing
  • 1-3 years of experience in a technical writing role, including working experience with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Acrobat, and Dreamweaver
  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, XML, and Microsoft Office
  • Proven working experience in technical writing
  • Ability to deliver high quality documentation paying attention to detail
  • Ability to quickly grasp complex technical concepts and make them easily understandable in text and pictures
  • Excellent written skills in English
  • Basic familiarity with the SDLC and software development
  • Bilingual English, Mandarin, Spanish, and French is a definite asset

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $48,000.00 to $54,000.00 /year
