JOB SUMMARY:
To provide customer service to City of Toronto shut-ins and to drive Mobile Library Services’ vehicles.
DUTIES:
Under the general direction of the designated supervisor, and working within a team structure, this position is responsible for:
- registering borrowers and maintaining their personal and reading information files
- providing basic information services and assisting with the choice and supply of appropriate materials
- advising eligible customers of Talking Books service and referring as appropriate
- instructing customers in the use of supplied equipment; delivering equipment; performing minor repairs
- performing various branch support duties such as compiling statistics, materials check-in and processing
- planning the daily shut-in service routes and maintaining the map of customer locations
- packing, loading and delivering materials in the vehicle
- driving the library vehicle in a safe and courteous manner
- determining maintenance and service requirements of vehicle; arranging servicing when required
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Secondary School Graduation Diploma or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
- Understanding and appreciation of the philosophy of public service to all, in accordance with human rights legislation and the principles of equity and access in the delivery of library service
- Driver’s license (Class “G”) in good standing
- Knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance and repair
- Ability to do clerical work with accuracy, skill and thoroughness
- Good communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
- Ability to use judgement and common sense
- Knowledge of public library collections including fiction, non-fiction and routine reference sources
- Knowledge of library terminology and the classification schemes of the collections serviced
- Ability to do physically demanding work

- Ability to work as part of a team
- Accuracy and speed in keyboarding
