SPIN magazine Canada is looking for a full-time reporter. We are seeking a talented and experienced National Music Writer to join our team. As a National Music Writer, you will be responsible for creating editorial calendars, researching, writing, and publishing music-related content across digital platforms. Photography skills are a major plus. You will play a crucial role in shaping the digital presence of our publication and driving engagement with our audience. This position requires a deep understanding of the Canadian music industry, exceptional editing skills, and a passion for music. While respecting experience, we are looking for new voices with voice as important as experience.
Responsibilities:
- Create and manage editorial calendar.
- Assist in the creation, curation, and editing of music-related content for digital platforms, including articles, reviews, interviews, and features.
- Support the team in staying current with the latest music trends, releases, and news, with a focus on the Canadian music industry.
- Help identify and refine compelling story ideas that align with our audience's interests.
- Assist in conducting interviews with artists, musicians, and industry professionals to produce captivating and insightful content.
- Work closely with the editorial team to assist in brainstorming and developing content strategies that enhance traffic and engagement.
- Aid in ensuring that all content adheres to our quality standards, including accuracy, clarity, and consistency with style guidelines.
- Support efforts to optimize content for SEO, enhancing organic search rankings and visibility.
- Some photography at live events
- Assist in managing and updating the content calendar to guarantee the timely publication of articles and features.
- Help monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to gauge content effectiveness and inform data-driven decisions.
- Contribute to building relationships with artists, labels, and industry contacts to access exclusive content and interviews.
- Participate in music events, concerts, and festivals to assist in covering live performances and industry updates.
- Stay abreast of emerging digital trends and platforms to assist in identifying new ways to engage with our audience.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, music, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in digital content editing or journalism, preferably within the music industry.
- Strong writing and editing skills, with a keen eye for detail and grammar.
- Excellent knowledge of the Canadian music industry, including artists, genres, and trends.
- Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) and basic HTML.
- Experience with SEO best practices and digital analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics) is preferred.
- Proven ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Creative mindset and ability to think outside the box to generate engaging content ideas.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with team members and external stakeholders.
- Passion for music and a deep understanding of its cultural impact and relevance.
- Photography skills a major asset
