Job Overview
Gibraltar Construction is a commercial general contractor specializing in tenant improvements and interior renovations. As we continue to grow our presence on Vancouver Island, we're looking for a Junior Site Manager / Carpenter to join and support our existing Island team.We're ideally looking for someone based in the Duncan or Nanaimo area. Our projects are located throughout Vancouver Island, with the majority of our current work from Duncan north, so some travel between projects will be required.This role would suit someone with a solid hands-on construction background who is ready to take on more responsibility and develop toward becoming a Site Manager. You don't need to be a 20-year journeyman carpenter. Around 5+ years of good hands-on construction experience, a willingness to learn, and an attitude of getting stuck into whatever needs doing are much more important to us.
What You'll Be Doing
- Support our experienced Site Managers across Vancouver Island projects.
- Assist with coordinating trades, deliveries, access and day-to-day site activities.
- Communicate with trades, PMs and other members of the project team.
- Complete daily reports, progress photos and basic site documentation.
- Open and close sites when required.
- Maintain clean, organized and professional jobsites.
- Complete hands-on work as required, including:
- Steel-stud framing and boarding/drywall.
- Doors and hardware.
- Blocking and backing.
- Finishing carpentry.
- Washroom accessories.
- Deficiencies and general site fixes.
- Gradually take on more responsibility and begin overseeing smaller projects independently.
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of hands-on construction experience preferred.
- Commercial construction or renovation experience is a strong asset.
- Good general carpentry and construction knowledge.
- Comfortable using basic technology for reports, photos and communication.
- Able to communicate confidently with trades and the project team.
- Valid driver's licence and reliable vehicle.
- Able to travel to projects throughout Vancouver Island.
- Most importantly: a good attitude, willingness to learn, and willingness to jump in and do whatever is required to keep a project moving.
We're not looking for someone who already knows everything. We already have experienced Site Managers on the Island who this person will work alongside and learn from. We're looking for someone with a strong hands-on foundation who wants the opportunity to develop into a Site Manager and take on more responsibility over time.
Gibraltar is continuing to grow on Vancouver Island, and we'd like this person to become a long-term part of the Island team as that workload continues to expand.
Pay: $25.00-$33.00 per hour
