Position Summary
The Quality Assurance Supervisor is responsible for assisting the Quality Manager in managing the QA Department and leading and developing the QA Team in maintaining, organizing, and improving the Quality and Food Safety Programs and providing support to all QA staff and cross functional team members.
Essential Duties, Skills and Responsibilities
· Maintain the BRC program and all other certified programs (e.g. Kosher, Organic, Gluten Free, Non-GMO, etc.).
· Manage the QA team and day-to-day laboratory functions.
· Provide employee training related to GMPs and HACCP Program.
· Support Production Supervisors to enforce GMPs in the Plant.
· Maintain, reassess, and improve the Quality Assurance Programs as required.
· Perform internal audits.
· Ensure that Trophy Foods is operating in accordance with the appropriate food legislation.
· Interface with Government Agencies at the Federal, Provincial, and Municipal levels.
· Ensure proper implementation of new procedures.
· Apply statistical Process Control (SPC) methods for analyzing data to evaluate the process control as monitored by Quality Control Department, as needed.
· Maintain written Company policies related to ensuring product quality and product safety and if necessary, add new polices that must be reviewed and approved by QA Manager or QA Director.
· Solve issues related to raw materials, ingredients, and process control.
· Investigate and respond to customers and consumer complaints as per the established Consumer Complaint Program.
· Evaluate new and existing suppliers of commodities, ingredients, cleaning chemicals, and packaging materials when necessary.
· Interact with suppliers, customers, and company personnel in all departments of all Trophy Plants - Production, Scheduling, Maintenance, Engineering, Marketing, Sales, Procurement, Warehouse, and Finance.
· Keep the QA Director and QA Manager informed of significant issues or developments identified during course of daily activities with recommendations of corrective action to rectify situation.
· Contribute to the continuous improvement of existing processes and products.
· Assist activities associated with sanitation operations and coaching the Sanitation team.
· Other duties as assigned by the QA Manager or QA Director.

Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactory while striving for excellence. The requirements listed below are a representative of the knowledge, skill, and/ or ability required.
· Education and/ or Experience – Minimum 5 years’ experience specializing in ground and tree nut commodities with 3-5 years’ experience in Food Manufacturing; 3-5 years leadership experience is considered an asset; Knowledge of BRC food safety standards with experience implementing and managing food safety systems in a food manufacturing environment; University Degree with a background in science; Knowledge of the Food & Drug Act and Regulations, FSMA and SFCR requirements, Canadian Organic Standards, Kosher Standard; Must have HACCP qualification (ideally advanced level); Training to conduct internal audits.
· Language Skills – Advanced English skills are required to read and interpret documents such as the Food & Drug Act and Regulations, Consumer Packaging & Labelling Act & Regulations, and other procedure manuals dealing with Food Laws. Ability to develop and write policies, procedures, programs, report forms, charts, and correspondence.
· Mathematical Skills – Understands and has knowledge of some statistical techniques; Calculates figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume; Applies concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
· Reasoning Ability – Ability to perform analytical tests accurately; Ability to read and interpret written information such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form; Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
· Computer Skills – Competent in using standard computer software packages including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, flow chart programming, and label programming. Experience with JDE is considered an asset.
· Physical Demands – Sitting/ standing/ walking throughout the facility on a daily basis.
· Work Environment - Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts. Continuous and constant noise that is above 80dBA (loud). Hearing protection is mandatory and will be provided; annual hearing tests are completed. Above normal temperatures during summer months. Some exposure to airborne particles within allowable limits.
