Al’s Hotshot & Trucking Services Ltd. is looking for a reliable and experienced Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our team in a full-time position. This role is primarily ongoing full-time work, with potential camp work in the winter and occasional on-call work in a service truck as needed.
About the Role
We are seeking a skilled mechanic who can safely inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy trucks, trailers, picker trucks, bed trucks, winch tractors, support units, and related oilfield transportation equipment. The successful candidate must be comfortable supporting shop and field operations, working safely in winter conditions when required, and responding to equipment issues as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform inspections, maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on heavy-duty trucks, trailers, and oilfield support equipment.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, air brake, and driveline issues.
- Complete repairs in the shop, in camp, and in the field when required.
- Respond to occasional service truck call-outs and breakdowns.
- Maintain accurate repair records, inspection notes, and work orders.
- Follow company safety policies, client site requirements, and safe work procedures at all times.
- Communicate clearly with dispatch, supervisors, operators, and other team members regarding equipment status and repair timelines.
- Keep tools, service truck, and work areas clean, organized, and ready for use.
Qualifications
- Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic certification required.
- Experience with heavy trucks, trailers, hydraulic systems, air systems, and oilfield equipment is an asset.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s licence required; Class 1 or Class 3 licence is an asset.
- CVI licence is an asset.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to work independently.
- Willingness to work in camp if required for winter project work.
- Must be available for occasional on-call service truck work.
- Ability to work safely in winter conditions and remote field environments.
- Must be dependable, safety-minded, and able to work well with others.
- Pre-employment requirements may include drug and alcohol testing, safety orientation, and client site access requirements.
Work Conditions
- Full-time position with winter camp work required only when supporting project needs.
- Occasional on-call service truck work may be required.
- Work may include shop, camp, and field repairs.
- Regular full-time schedule; camp rotation or project-specific scheduling will be discussed during the hiring process if applicable.
- Work may involve outdoor conditions, cold weather, and changing field priorities.
