Job Title: Development Manager
Reports To: Executive Vice President, Development
Department: Vaughan Metropolitan Centre (VMC)
Position Summary:
The Development Manager, VMC will be a key member of the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre (“VMC”) team at SmartCentres and will work closely with internal and external consultants to advance approvals across the VMC portfolio, including but not limited to the 100-acre mix-ed use masterplan located in the heart of Vaughan.
The successful candidate will be managing all aspects of approval process for residential, mixed-use projects, and commercial projects, motivated by thoughtful design and long-term ownership.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and responsible for multiple high-rise projects throughout the development process —including planning approvals, design development, and liaison during construction —by working with multi-disciplined consultant teams and various government authorities
- Effectively communicate with consultant team, municipal staff, politicians, community residents and other external stakeholders to ensure success of the project
- Maintain appropriate records of architectural, landscape, and engineering plans, as well as approvals, permits and agreements for each project
- Prepare and maintain project schedules, meeting minutes, budgets, cost tracking, and assist in other financial reporting
- Manage collaborative and ongoing support with internal departments – Sales and Marketing, Construction, Accounting, Legal, and Finance in the lead up various project milestone such as sales launch/lease-up, construction start
- Manage building permit and condo registration process for multi-family condominium projects
- Stay current on new industry technologies and trends and municipal standards
- Help build industry and market presence and awareness
Academic/Professional Requirements:
- Post-secondary degree in Urban Planning, Architecture, Engineering, Urban Land Economics, or Finance.
Required Skills/Experience:
- 4+ years of relevant work experience within the real estate development industry and/or relevant practical experience
- A strong understanding of planning policies, regulations, and approvals processes in the Greater Toronto Area is desirable.
- Knowledge of Bluebeam Revu, Revit, and AutoCAD would be considered a benefit.
- Self-motivated, hardworking, detail-oriented, and analytical with a strong desire to learn and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate across all levels within, as well as outside the organization.
- Effective organizational and problems solving skills.
