We are accepting applications from current CVRD CUPE Local 556 Employees only for a term full-time Operations Support Assistant (Wastewater/Water) to join our Engineering Services team for a period of up to six months or until the return of the incumbent. This position works full time on-site out of the Comox Valley Water Pollution Control Centre.
The Operations Support Assistant provides reception, administrative assistance, dispatch, and operational support for Wastewater and Water Services. Reporting to the Manager of Wastewater Services, the primary responsibilities of this role include:
Providing administrative support to wastewater and water managers and staff within the operations departments;
Serving as the first point of contact for the water pollution control centre and water treatment plant, coordinating site services such as maintenance, janitorial, waste and recycling;
Overseeing shipping and receiving, coding, processing, assigning, and unloading delivery trucks with a forklift or pallet jack;
Acting as the site primary first aid attendant and health and safety committee representative, managing incident documentation, assisting with accident investigations and follow up;
Monitoring the Working Alone App and SPOT satellite communication device used by operations staff;
Preparing correspondence, reports, briefing notes, and contracts, including charts and spreadsheets, drafting and formatting documents for review and signature;
Handling inquiries by phone, email, or in person, providing information on branch services and programs;
Collaborating with operations staff to develop maps and messaging for public notifications about upcoming projects or service interruptions;
Updating the website maintenance page and Comox Valley Regional District website and assisting with press releases and social media posts;
Processing applications, permits, and rebates in accordance with established procedures;
Creating work orders for the crews from a variety of inputs as the designated CityWorks super user;
Acting as the first point of contact for researching and responding to BC One calls;
Maintaining project and invoice tracking systems.

Experienced in providing administrative and operational support for a public works, wastewater or water department, including experience with a computerized maintenance management system, with over one, up to two years of directly related experience;
Educated in office administration, including an office administration course of six months to one year in duration at the post-secondary level following high school graduation (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered);
Knowledgeable in the practices and processes involved in local government office administration with a general understanding of CVRD wastewater and water operations;
Familiar with iMap, iCity, Collector App, PI Vision and water meter reading equipment and software;
An advanced user of CityWorks, windows-based office applications such as Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat and SharePoint applications, with emphasis on word processing, presentations, PDF editing and web utilization.
A valid BC Class 5 driver’s license, First Aid-Level 1 including transportation endorsement and Forklift Operator certification is required, other preferred qualifications include First Aid-Level 2 and front-end loader training.
