OVERVIEW:
Reporting to the Wellness Program Supervisor the Wellness Program Facilitator will deliver Cultural programing to our Care Homes in the eight (8) Southeast Communities and in Winnipeg. The Wellness Program Facilitator will work from a community cultural development perspective to build and maintain working relationships with children, youth and families. The Wellness Program Facilitator will partner with community leadership and community organizations to deliver activities aimed at children and youth in our Care Homes. The Wellness Program Facilitator will work alongside our partners in service to improve the experiences of children, Elders and families.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plan, organize, and coordinate culturally relevant programs and resources aimed to promote recreation and wellness amongst First Nations Children and Youth and families.- Establish positive and effective partnerships with communities, resources and service collaterals on and off reserve.
- Provide notice of programing to all collaterals in a timely fashion.
- Host activities and events that are responsive to community needs and strengths, for the purpose of supporting healthy recreation and community engagement.
- Practice inclusion that includes all
- community members in events and encourages SAI homes to engage with others at community events.
- Maintain and update Program budget and coordinate the purchase of food and activity related supplies for the team.
- Develop, administer and continue to evolve the program while building positive working relationships with community and partnered organizations.
- Promote health and wellness, which will help children and youth thrive physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
- Work closely with the Running White Wolves Youth Council to engage local community members to help participate in facilitating programs.
- Complete documentation and reports, as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
2-3 years of direct experience working with children, youth and families.- Must be willing to regularly travel to Southeast communities.
- Training and/or professional experience working in child development.
- Knowledge and experience working with our Southeast First Nations communities.
- Personal experience successfully supporting the wholistic wellness of children, young people and families.
- Strong inter-personal communication skills and able to work as a team.
- Personable and approachable, with the capacity to build effective working relationships.
- Ability to apply a strengths-based approach to working with people with diverse life experiences.
- Ability to plan and facilitate cultural relevant programming/activities.
- Demonstrate knowledge and/or understanding of First Nations perspectives, culture, and philosophies.
- Well-developed documentation skills.
- Must maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be resourceful with a high attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and effectively manage multiple priorities.
- Satisfactory child and adult abuse registry checks, criminal record check with vulnerable sector search and PCC, required.
- Valid drivers license and a reliable vehicle with a satisfactory driver abstract, required.
- Various hours based on the needs of children and youth – days, evenings and weekends.
- This position includes regularly scheduled travel to First Nations communities.
- Must be able to travel to the communities as required by car, boat and plane.
- Ability of speak Anishinaabe is an asset.
