Overview
We are seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and non-judgmental Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) to join our addiction medicine clinic team. The ideal candidate is passionate about supporting individuals living with substance use disorders and mental health challenges through a patient-centered and trauma-informed approach. This role requires strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and an understanding of harm reduction principles and recovery-oriented care.
The RPN will work collaboratively with physicians, counselors, case managers, and community partners to support patients in achieving improved health outcomes and stability. The successful candidate must be comfortable working with diverse and vulnerable populations while maintaining professionalism, empathy, and respect.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate and respectful support to patients receiving addiction medicine services
- Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and clinic protocols
- Monitor patient health status, withdrawal symptoms, and response to treatment
- Support opioid agonist therapy (OAT) and other addiction treatment programs
- Apply harm reduction principles in all patient interactions and care planning
- Educate patients on medication management, safer substance use practices, overdose prevention, and community resources
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation using electronic medical record systems (EMR)
- Collaborate with physicians, counselors, pharmacies, and community agencies to coordinate patient care
- Assist with intake assessments, patient follow-ups, and case coordination
- Support patients experiencing mental health concerns, trauma, homelessness, or social instability with empathy and professionalism
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold professional and ethical standards
- Ensure compliance with clinic policies, infection prevention protocols, and regulatory requirements
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to a positive and supportive clinic environment
- Work flexible hours as required, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
Qualifications & Experience
- Current registration and good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
- Current CPR certification required
- Experience working in addiction medicine, mental health, community health, or related healthcare settings is considered an asset
- Knowledge of harm reduction, trauma-informed care, and substance use treatment approaches is strongly preferred
- Familiarity with opioid agonist therapy (OAT), withdrawal management, and overdose prevention is an asset
- Proficiency with electronic medical record systems is preferred
- Strong communication, de-escalation, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- Demonstrated compassion, patience, cultural sensitivity, and professionalism
- Flexible and reliable with the ability to adapt to changing clinic needs and schedules

Pay: $24.00-$26.00 per hour
