Mott MacDonald is looking to hire a motivated individual to join our growing team, to lead the execution of power systems engineering and integration activities for rail and transit projects in Alberta. As part of our Rail Control Systems Team, this position will provide the opportunity to contribute to the growth of our Canadian operations, including recruiting, leading, and mentoring junior staff, and contributing to business development opportunities. This role will report to the Rail Systems Practice Lead for Western Canada.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the traction power and overhead catenary system (OCS) elements of project delivery for Mott MacDonald in Alberta, including interfacing with infrastructure and related systems design teams
- Review traction power and overhead catenary system (OCS) designs, specifications, installation, and testing plans for compliance with applicable regulations, standards, and guidelines
- Provide technical advisory and input to clients in the development of system requirements and contract documents for traction power and OCS aspects of rail projects
- Lead the traction power and OCS design elements of project bids including oversight of conceptual design and budget development
- Provide technical support to project teams at all stages of the Project life cycle
- Apply lessons learned and advise on necessary corrective actions for ongoing projects
- Develop and maintain relationships with key delivery partners and service providers for power system equipment and solutions
- Engage with end clients as and when necessary
Candidate Specifications:
- Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or Systems Engineering
- Minimum 10-15 years’ design, specification, installation, or maintenance of power systems with significant experience in passenger rail and transit projects
- Professional Engineer designation in Alberta
- Experience with management and coordination of multiple aspects of power systems design in the delivery of rail or complex infrastructure projects, including the following:
- Design of Traction Power Substations
- Specification of power equipment such as transformers and rectifiers
- Interfacing with power utilities
- Integration with SCADA systems
- Experience at least two of the following delivery systems:
- Power rail
- Shop power/“Stinger” systems
- Overhead Catenary system
- INCOSE ASEP or CSEP certification is desirable
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and English fluency
- Good interpersonal skills with proven ability to work effectively as part of a multi- disciplined team
- Able to hold competent technical and business discussions with Clients and business partners
- Able to interface with domain specialists, design managers and construction project managers, in a competent professional manner
- Knowledge of Systems Engineering and Integration management as applied to major railway infrastructure projects / technology development and implementation projects
- Knowledge of System Engineering Lifecycles as defined in IEC/IEEE 15288 - awareness of different lifecycles and experience with the implementation of lifecycle approaches to real projects
