DRS Technologies Canada Ltd. (DRS Canada), is a leading mid-tier Canadian defence electronics company specializing in military voice and data communications systems; electro-optics (EO) and infrared search and tracking systems (IRST); command, control, communications, computers and intelligence (C4I) systems integration; deployable flight data recorders; and defence/space electronics manufacturing.

This intermediate role performs requirements analysis and management, system design and definition, and system integration of hardware, software and mechanical systems for existing and developmental systems. The work may apply to naval communications systems, flight data recorders, or other DRS aerospace and defense product areas.

Major Roles and Responsibilities:
Derivation of requirements and development of requirements documents.
Review of customer requirements and specifications and development top-level performance specifications.
Requirements management using DOORS.
Preparation of system level specifications and drawings.
Prepareration of Configuration Item/Equipment Procurement Specifications.
Definition of vendor source selection evaluation criteria.
Vendor selection against evaluation criteria.
Conduct of system level trade studies, including make/buy analyses to develop an optimal solution.
Preparation of interface requirements specifications, interface and installation control drawings.
Preparation of proposal related material including system functional, performance, physical, design and construction descriptions, engineering plans, cost and schedule estimates.
Preparation of project system engineering data deliverables
Participation in reviews with internal/external customers and implements corrective actions as required
Development of test methods to verify and validate requirements.
Supervision system and subsystem validation and verification tests.
System fault investigation.
Baseline definition
Assists with integrated logistics support activities including analysis, technical publications and customer interface control documents.
May be required to travel to customer sites
Provides general guidance/coaching to other Engineers, in multi-disciplined teams (hardware, software, mechanical etc.)
Multiplexes between different projects and delivers on commitments.
Ability to conceptually link macro level project plans to micro level tasks.
Ability to demonstrate flexibility to meet business demands.
Other duties as assigned. This may include assuming project leadership responsibilities on one or more technical programs.

Understanding of tools and materials used in a naval environment.
Experience in systems design with MIL-STD- 498, 1521.
Familiarity with DO-278 and DO-254.
Experience in design and processes in accordance with ISO/IEC 15288.
Experience in designing for requirements including MTTR, MTBF, Availability and HFE guidelines.
Background in specifying installations and support including wire/cabling, facility drawings and guidance packages.
Demonstrates strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Works effectively as a member of a team.
Ability to learn quickly and adapt to rapidly evolving technologies.
Computer literate with knowledge of word-processing and spreadsheet programs.

Technical Competencies:
Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or computer science, or equivalent, from a regular or co-op program.
At least 4 to 7 years professional experience in designing and developing systems.
Ability to diagnose and correct software/hardware/mechanical integration problems.
Familiarity with systems tools and off-the-shelf packages that can be utilized for system development including Req Pro and/or DOORS.
Sound working knowledge of life cycle models, software and hardware design processes, life cycle models, communication protocols; and real time system design methods.
Good knowledge of measurement equipment; logic and other analyzers and oscilloscopes with an understanding of data analysis techniques
Experience with commercial PBX equipment (Avaya G650/G450, Cisco) is an asset
Networking concepts and design
Real-time Embedded systems specification and design
Avionic product design and verification
Shipboard product design and verification
Include agile models to the life cycle models
Experience conducting and recording proof of compliance verification
