Nova Scotia Health Authority provides health services to Nova Scotians and some specialized services to Maritimers and Atlantic Canadians. We operate hospitals, health centres and community-based programs across the province. Our team of health professionals includes employees, doctors, researchers, learners and volunteers that provide the health care or services you may need. This is accomplished across four geographic management zones which are responsible for the operation of acute care health centres and the provision of a variety of inpatient, outpatient services including academic, tertiary, quaternary care and community based programs and services including continuing care, primary health care, public health, and mental health and addictions.

Responsibilities

The Registered Nurse (RN) works collaboratively within an inter-professional team, providing a holistic approach (addressing bio, psycho, social, cultural, and spiritual needs), and comprehensive care for individuals, families, groups, populations and communities across the continuum of care. The RN independently provides safe, competent, compassionate, ethical nursing care to all patients with predictable and unpredictable outcomes and all levels of complexity, and ensures goals and needs are prioritized and individualized. Using nursing knowledge, critical thinking and clinical judgement, the RN engages in independent, interdependent and dependent functions to provide healthcare focusing on comprehensive assessment, patient/family education, and coordination of care. These functions may be self-determined, or assigned by physician or nurse practitioner, other RN or as part of team consultation and planning.

Qualifications

  • Current registration with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing.
  • Current and relevant clinical experience in “Women and Children’s Health” nursing. Recent Labor and Delivery experience is required.
  • The ability to work independently and as an effective team member.
  • Current certification in Neonatal Resuscitation Program.
  • Breast feeding knowledge and courses required (i.e. Making a Difference training/Step 2 Breast feeding) and support in providing breast feeding education in acute and/or community setting.
  • Current Heart & Stroke certification in BCLS.
  • Minimum one year Labor and Delivery experience required (within the last 2 years).
  • Minimum one year acute care experience.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience providing patient education to individuals and groups.
  • Experience with Baby Friendly Initiative standards.
  • Commitment to complete current competencies within the Women and Children’s Health Unit.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated competency in Women and Children’s Health nursing.
  • Demonstrated commitment to family centered environment.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred.

Hours of Work

Permanent Part-Time (80%) Position; 60 hours bi-weekly

Salary Information

$35.2108 - $41.4848 Hourly

$42.9366 with 25 years of RN experience
