We are seeking a passionate and collaborative digitally-native creative leader to help build the Princess Margaret brand in the GTA, across Canada, and globally. The candidate will help guide the creative vision and oversee the exceptional execution of the creative content developed out of our Creative Services department. The Creative Director, in addition to leadership and creative development skills, will have a strong desire to contribute to our mission – Future Care Now.

About The Role

The Creative Director role is a full-time position, reporting to the Vice-President, Brand & Integrated Marketing. The role will oversee a team of graphic designers, videographer/photographers, writer and back end web developer to develop (in tandem with the VP, Marketing, and potentially an agency parter) a vision for the creative output of the Creative Services department. Not only will the candidate provide creative leadership, but will also actively develop work his or herself. The desired creative skillset of the Creative Director is that of digitally-native art direction/designer with development capabilities.

The successful candidate will help guide and improve the creative communications output of our Creative Services team, continually striving to elevate the quality of our work, leading to consistent achievement or over-achievement of our KPIs.

Areas of Accountability

Creative Leadership

Lead and inspire the in-house creative team, guiding the conceptual and creative direction for all design staff
Translate creative briefs into communications delivering on objectives
Oversee creative decision making at key milestones along the content creation journey including initial creative vision, creative direction and creative execution
Responsible for the delivery of in-house, freelance, and production partner’s creative projects that deliver on quality and a consistency of messaging
Manage team of graphic designers, videographer/photographers, writer, back end web developer
Advocate for best in class creative across the organization
Works collaboratively with Senior Manager, Creative Services, whose role: receives briefs and project requests, understands them, and works with Creative Director on assigning projects. The Senior Manager, Creative Services also coordinates all production, acting as producer / print production manager / project manager to ensure jobs are finished on time, on budget and executed flawlessly. Senior Manager, Creative Services is supported by a Coordinator, Creative Services.
Work with, where required, outside creative or media agency partners to align and execute creative assets.
Digital Expertise

Strong contributor to the digital capabilities of the Creative Services department through your active role in working on projects/creative outputs from a digital design & UX/UI perspective
Front-end development and an understanding of those technologies, and/or experience working with Kentico and/or Raisin considered a strong asset
Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and/or InDesign
Active understanding of the development of functioning websites, HTML5 banner ads and digital applications, integrating responsive design


7-10 years digital design/development experience, with 2+ years creative leadership experience in an agency/studio environment
Fundraising marketing experience considered an asset
Bachelor’s/post-secondary degree in marketing, advertising, graphic design, digital communications or fine arts is ideal
Proven leadership skills with experience guiding, mentoring and coaching creative teams to bring out the best in their work
Excellent communication and persuasion skills, with an ability to both judge concepts and provide clear creative direction as well as articulate and sell a core creative idea based on insight
Equally comfortable “doing” as you are leading – you are a true team player who recognizes the power of collaboration
Astute cultural awareness - design + art trends, innovative retail/non-profit, cultural trends
Beyond digital experience, proven track record of success leading creative campaigns/projects across a variety of mediums, including:
Experience in creating or overseeing production of video concepts from idea to final execution
Experience in development of impactful social content
Experience in development of exceptionally well-designed print/collateral elements
A highly positive person, able to lead by example and who values input from others

Work Environment

Regular daily hours of work with some evenings and weekends.
Work will take place primarily at our offices at 700 University Avenue, Toronto
