The HR Generalist plays a key role in managing various human resources functions within the organization. They are responsible for providing support and expertise in areas such as employee relations, performance management, benefits administration, and HR policies. The HR Generalist works closely with employees, managers, and senior leadership to ensure effective implementation of HR initiatives and compliance with employment laws and regulations. They also handle employee onboarding, training, and development programs, as well as assist in resolving workplace conflicts and grievances. The HR Generalist acts as a point of contact for HR-related inquiries, maintains personnel records, and contributes to the overall HR strategy to foster a positive work environment.
Job Duties
- Must ensure the Human Resource Department complies with Federal and Provincial laws regarding employee files, terminations and resignations.
- Follow-up with all resignations to gain a more in-depth understanding as to why the individual is resigning. Email tracking of employee turnover to the General Manager.
- Ensure effective exit interviews are conducted with office staff and front-line staff who have been employed for a minimum 2 years. Fill out fully and accurately the Exit Checklist and ensure that the form is filed appropriately upon completion.
- Speak to department Managers on employee performance concerns.
- Review tracking of recruitment to ensure the most productive advertising mediums are being utilized. Utilize tracking efforts to email statistics to the General Manager on a monthly basis.
- Aid in recruitment efforts by performing interviews, screenings, and recruitment for entry level, professional and technical job openings. Hire for any full-time office roles.
- Handle all employee concerns; investigate employee concerns and questions ensuring all concerns are followed through from beginning to end.
- Ensure compliance with all federal and provincial legislation, regulations and standards.
- Ensure company policies and procedures are maintained and up to date and are in accordance with all federal and provincial legislation.
- Maintain accurate, up to date and complete personnel records.
- Communicate to internal stakeholders in regard to Human Resources policies, procedures, laws, standards and regulations.
- Provide resolutions to employee relations issues by adhering to the company investigation policy and procedures (e.g. employee complaints and harassment allegations).
- Complete other duties and projects as assigned.
Requirements
- 4-5 year’s experience in a human resources generalist role.
- Bachelor's degree or post-graduate certificate in Human Resources Management.
- Effective communication skills with individuals at all levels of the organization.
- Superior telephone manners and strong interpersonal skills.
- Excellent typing skills, including proper spelling and grammar.
- Presentation skills required.
- Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times.
- Able to work efficiently as a part of a team as well as independently.
- Computer literacy, including effective working skills of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and e-mail required.
- Excellent time and project management skills.
- Attention to detail in all areas of work.
- Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills.
- Ability to interpret and implement company policies and procedures.
- Health and Safety experience is an asset.
