Oberland Agriscience Inc. is a sustainable black soldier fly larvae (BSFL) farm in Halifax, NS. We are focused on closing the food loop in our region by partnering with local food producers and distributors to upcycle organic by-products such as spent grains from your favorite craft brewery to grow BSFL on an industrial scale. Oberland’s engaged and highly skilled team rears the BSFL in our zero-waste facility and delivers exceptional productivity per hectare yielding a nutrient-rich, low environmental impact protein and fertilizer.
We are currently looking for a Company Controller. The person in this role will be functionally responsible for all accounting functions for Oberland Agriscience. This person will perform accounting tasks and support inventory management to enable the efficient flow of finances and products that aligns with the purpose and vision of the company.
This position is supported by Oberland’s CEO
The key responsibilities of this position are:
Infrastructure - 75%
· perform on-going full cycle accounting on a monthly basis
· manage cash flow, create rolling cash flow forecasts, update actuals and reforecast as necessary
· manage annual budget process and rolling forecast
· process all AP, AR and expense reports
· process payroll and perform all necessary reconciliations and remittances
· manage CRA relationship and create reporting and filings
· perform wire transfers, cheque signing
· completion of year end process: prepare year end working papers and coordinate final statements with external accounting firm,
· manage and submit all applications and claims and act as liaison for funding programs
· support annual SR&ED filing
· manage all business registrations and other accounts
· main contact for and manage relationships and activities relating to banking
· manage all insurance policies and relationships with insurers
· oversee set up and management of all service providers including utilities, security, couriers etc.
· perform all inventory purchasing coordinating with Operations and Quality
Today’s Revenue - 20%
· support production scheduling and sales forecasts
· track open PO’s and reconcile with Operations team as needed
· support Operations in managing inventory including supply and logistics, forecasting and planning
· perform cost accounting and communicate to leadership team
Strategy 5%
· provide input on company financial strategy during planning sessions

To be a great fit for this role you:
- Are a CPA in good standing
- Have a minimum of 5 years experience in Senior Accountant or Controller roles
- have proficiency in on-line accounting platforms, especially Xero
- Create efficiencies in your work through your attention to detail and passion for smooth work flows
- Are exceptionally able to build strong, trusting relationships with a team as well as with external collaborators
- Are passionate about purpose led businesses in the circular economy
